Which are the best and fastest SSD drive for a fair amount of money thats out? And with a fair amount of money i mean top 400USD.![]()

don't buy ocz and other sand-force based ssds. recommend crucial M4 and Samsung 830
-
thx for the quick answer!
-
SandForce SSDs are fine as long as you get the Toshiba NAND variant namely the Max IOPs, Patriot Wildfire and Mushkin Chronos Deluxe. I would try and get my hands on a OCZ Octane. They have brand new controllers and look really good.
-
Intel is my vote. #1 for reliability in my opinion.

Its odd...but it seems the new intel drives are coming with sandforce controllers? And the new OCZ Octane comes with the newest indulinx controller? What the heck is going on here?
To the OP...the best price/performance is the Crucial M4. The Intel SSDs like the 510 is very solid also. And I, like Widezu, am very tempted to get my hands on the OCZ Octane.
BUT, please avoid the cheap SSDs out there. The market is flooded with them -
Have ordered this one today
OCZ OCTANE 2.5" 256GB SSD SATA/600 MLC -

NICE! Please let us know how it performs because i'm seriously considering this drive
-
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
SandForce by nature isn't all that unreliable I had 3 x SF 1200 drives, which I never had issues.
I hope you know OCZ bought out Indilinx quite a while ago. The M4 are at decent price points, the 510 series is a bit pricey considering M4 is at better price points, but people will pay more $$$ for Intel reliability, though it is a Marvell controller. -

yeah, i knew OCZ had bought indulinx, which was a sign to me that they were moving away from sandforce. Don't know if it was for cost reduction or reliability issues. Either way, OCZ OCtane is looking sexy

DR, do you think I can use samsung 470 and intel 510 at the same time? or would they cause a problem? I want to buy an intel 510 250GB and make it my boot drive, also keep samsung 470 as storage, would you recommend this setup?
-
a LOT of people at amazon is complaining it is DOA, I hope yours will work fine
-
I would think that it would work, but I've never tried it so I can't say for sure. Not sure how driver's would work. I would think the standard microsoft drivers would run both. Propietary drivers may cause issues though, so I really have no clue
-
Oh darn! With my usual luck , i look forward to an DOA then ..
-
Don't be too pessimistic. I got great expectations for this drive and since you are the first guy to get one on the M17x, I'm hoping it isn't DOA.
-
Hehe think its arriving on Friday! Nah i think its gonna be ok
I feel lucky today! Since AW called me up and they figured out the problems on my m17
Wrong heatsink...... Delltech sent me an for the 560 instead of 580...
-

-

why wouldn't it work? worse case both will run at SATA2, but they will work 100%...510 at 3 and the 470 at 2
BTW, good sale on the 470 128 gig version today:

Agreed. I'm using Mushkin Callisto deluxe 34nm version since 11/2010. Never ever experienced any slowdown/ BSOD/ or HW issue.

We have a whole section for SSDs please check here:
Solid State Drives (SSDs) and Flash Storage
There's nothing Alienware specific about a SSD.
Thank you.
