    M17X R4. Win 7 Pro.

I think a possible solution for those of us who are having “audio not being recognized, the red x on the speakers icon” issue might just be an option in the BIOS to physically disable and enable the onboard audio. That of course would require Dell to update the BIOS for such an option.

Now I have been asked by Alienware Technical Support rep Mr. Porras to send an email with the issue I am having, however before we go down that route which my guess would ultimately be a mobo swap, a simple update to the bios might eliminate the down time for sending the laptop to Dell etc..

So what do you say Dell, any chance of a BIOS update? I would also like the option to be able to disable the onboard graphic card in the bios as well. An option like Auto and disable. Where if it is on auto you can use FN+7 kinda like it is now. I personally keep it on 7970 all the time. I mean gaming is why we bought these laptops and since you have to restart to switch between graphic cards anyway.

    Cheers

It seems to be an issue with sleep mode, i can reset it, put it in sleep mode again and wake it up and it somehow works again /boggle

Same here, I put it to sleep then wake it up, do the “Let there be audio dance” and for some reason it works. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries. Hey do you do the “Let there be audio dance” too? I am convinced it is the dance. I can’t think of any other explanation.

Speaking of sleep mode, I wonder if you have the same issue as well. If I put it to sleep for half an hour or longer then wake it up, the audio does not work, the browser freezes and the whole computer is jacked up. It will not shut down either so I have to hold the power button down and force a shut down that way. So my guess is the audio has something to do with it. I don’t put the laptop to sleep anymore and just shut it down. Not a big issue for me, I have SSD and it boots up pretty quick; still annoying.

I am hoping someone from Alienware tech support would see this post and maybe update the bios.
