I bought a couple extra AC adapters from Dell.com. The ones that are listed as parts for the M17x show a 210w AC adapter, Manufacturer Part# Y044M. I then also found a 240w AC adapter (Precision M6500) with Manufacturer Part# Y044M. Seems like they are the same, since they have the same part number!

I am having problems getting them to charge a M17xR2. At first, neither would charge the M17xR2. It would, though, power it. With some monkeying around, I think I got one to charge the M17xR2 (non-Extreme CPU with Crossfire 4870's).

The other, though, says the AC adapter is not compatible during power on.

I tried this same AC adapter on my daughters M17xR2 (non-Extreme CPU with Crossfire 4870's) and it works fine. No adapter error at power on.

The original AC adapter with the first M17xR2 also works fine.

The P/N of the AC adapter is 0J211H and is the thin 240w variety.

Ideas as so why these two accessory AC adapters are giving me grief?

Does the warning go away after initial boot?

I got the warning on my first boot, but never happened after.

Mine is 240v, and says flextronics is the maker. Pretty flat, and wide.

No, but somehow my friend (who I got the AC adapters for) monkey'd around and says he got one of them to start charging.

I tried the 2nd adapter yesterday, and could not get it to charge, but tried it today on my daughters with about the same config, and it doesn't give the error at power on, but in Windows 7, when I plug it in, I either get an OSD message saying the adapter is not supported by the system (and not charging), or a message saying to "connect a compatible adapter for optimal performance" and it is charging, or no message and it is charging.

Both of the chargers are the updated Delta Electronics chargers.

    Seems very inconsistent.

My first replacement came with huge Dell brick, and that also gave the exact error on initial boot.

I don't even know what the original ones look like at this point, but as long as it's 240v for SLI models, it should work (atleast from what I've read).

Oh and make sure your bios are up to date.

The original AC is a Flextronics (flat and wide) as I had this for my R1 a year ago. The newer model is a Delta, if you look around on the threads you'll see it mentioned though Dell still issues the Flextronics.

I have a few of the 210 Watt Dell adaptors from my M6400, and they would not work with my M17x

The manufacturer part numbers are the same, though. This is what I bought, since the other option shows only 210W.

I also have problems with the DELTA 150W charging my laptop...

i am neginning to wonder if the problem is not related to GPU/ATI driver because or something like that...

do both of your R2 laptops have same GPU setups?
