Just to know before I buy,
How does the 680m stack up on battery life against the 7970m?
I will be using it for whiles at a time and just want to know just to compare the 7970m

Note the battery times are when not gaming

Not sure yet as nobody has received one yet. I will be getting my machine hopefully by weeks end or next week if all works well.

Since nVidia has the optimus technology I would assume that the 680m will be better to save battery however we normally don't recommend to use the computer in batter for gaming, you will lose a lot of performance.

Both have their own form of graphics switching technology, so I would assume that both cards get the same battery life when not gaming. While gaming, though? Who knows!

Well it basically comes down to enduro(AMD) vs optimus(Nvidia). due to optimus being around longer it has had more time to be tweaked and perfected so my money with would be on nvidia. However I could easily be wrong and enduro could be better. I'm glad I have manual switching (only available with AMD on the r3) so I don't have to mess with games not running right and I can manually switch to the Igp for maximum battery life. :)

In case you haven't purchased yet, according to Review GeForce GTX 680M vs. Radeon HD 7970M - Notebookcheck.net Reviews (towards the bottom under "Battery Life") the 680m had a better battery runtime of 100 mins vs the 7970m at 56 mins. I'm not sure about the conditions under which the battery runtime was measured but the article suggests "heavy load" and "maximum brightness." The article also claims that Nvidia's graphics switching technology, optimus, is superior to AMD's enduro, which is not surprising since optimus has seen more development, so the 680m will likely see better battery runtime. There is also the mentioning of the 680m drawing less power than the 7970m in the same article which might be relevant to battery runtime and heat production.
