    Hi all,

I have a HD 6870m in my M17x (not a great one i know) and have gone to update CCC as i noticed i have version 12.10.

On AMDs website, downloading the driver verification tool, it fails to install as "my hardware isnt supported" anyone else having this issue and how do i get around it?

    Thanks

As far as I know, switchable graphics haven't had a update for a very long time (I think 2 years now), if you have switchable graphics you're pretty much screwed with updated drivers. AMD hasn't bothered in providing dell with updates that work 100% so your best bet is to download them manually, here's the latest one I saw uploaded here http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...d-catalyst-13-6-beta-13-101-0-0-may-23-a.html I'm currently using them, it does provide a slight increase in performance compared to 12.1 and you get to have the latest CCC the only downside to it is that the screen light dimmer controls won't work at all, even from the system settings; the only workaround to that is to switch to integrated graphics, increase or reduce the light dim and then switch back to the dedicated card graphics.

If you don't want to bother yourself with that and only want a updated CCC then download the correct driver version from the link and select custom install and select only the CCC update. I am very happy myself with the new drivers even if I can't dim the light without switching graphics because I rarely use the computer unplugged while gaming.

Another thing you can do (but this is at your own risk) is find the Newest bios for the M17x which has features Alienware/Dell do not let you normally see. I used a hacked bios and was able to just disable my onboard Intel 3000 video and stick strictly to the ATI card I have in mine. This makes it so that the driver tool DOES actually work. Again this is at your own risk however I would only use it as a last resort if you can not get it working any other way. For me personally I didn't mind and I've been happy ever since with the hack so that I can update my drivers when I see fit.
