    Hi

Sorry are these official drivers & no longer beta/preview. I already have 11.7, should I just install these over the top. I installed over the top of the stock dell driver when I went to 11.7 & all was fine. Is this still the best practice to update?

    Thanks,
    Wayne

Thanks for saying that 11.8 is out :D

I think that these drivers are unstable compared to the 11.7 drivers. I started up TDU2 and within 5 minutes of playing, blue squares were flashing on everything around me, then my screen went black, then came back, so I've gone back to 11.7 and hoping that this very weird problem wont happen again. :)

so do you install this on top of the 11.8 preview driver? or do you have to uninstall it, install dell's stock driver, then install this 11.8 ontop of that?

Yes, I'd like to know the same. Can these be installed over the top of the previous driver? In my case 11.7, in Hteng's case 11.8 preview? Are they worth upgrading to seeing as 11.7 are working very well already?

It has been explained many times over the forum, but I guess it is a bit dificult to serch for it...

You have to switch to the dedicated (ATi) GPU FN + F7 and then run the 11.8 driver over the current one (dell driver). Sometimes you need to restart after installation, sometimes you don't.

However, if you want to revert to the Dell driver, you must uninstall the driver from the control panel, restart in safe mode, do a clean up (ccleaner) and driver sweaper (it searches for the remaining stuff from the previous driver installed and removes them). You can search for both the programs from google (they are free and great programs).

    Hope that helped.

    Regards

Cheers for that. You mention installing 11.8 over the current dell driver. That worked for me when I was on dell stock and installed 11.7 over it. But now I am on AMD's 11.7 do I just install 11.8 over the top of this one (AMD GPU selected)?

I do apologise as I know numerous posts cover installing AMD drivers but lots of different answers & nothing specifically covering when you already have an AMD reference driver and you want to update to the next one.

    Many thanks,
    Wayne

I installed these Cat 11.8 WHQL's over 11.7's which had been installed over 11.8 Previews which were installed over the Dell July drivers. All is well.

I get the error message trying to use Catalyst Mobility, I guess I have to install the Catalyst Control Center itself?

"AMD Catalyst Mobility cannot be downloaded due to incompatible hardware/software on your computer."

Not thoroughly, but they're very close to the 11.7's -- down 40+/- in '06, up 25-30 in Vantage, flat in 3dMark11. Not very controlled but close enough for trends. Sort of a non-event performance wise. All at stock clocks.

I think the official AMD site enforces the restriction that the reference drivers are not intended for laptops with switchable graphics based on Intel chipsets, i.e., notebooks like the R3. The other source is also an official ATI/AMD site but is not intended for general consumers. Think of it as the official bootleg joint.

Thank you. I seem to have installed the official AMD site driver and seems the switchable graphics works just fine, although I read the log detailing conflicts may occur with integrated graphics...

They're virtually the same drivers. It's just that little download utility that causes the problem from the major AMD public site. You should have no problem with the switchable graphics.

Any change with this drivers? besides teh WHQL, i suspect no imporvement or change respect the 11.8preview.

Installed this morning over 11.7 but not had a chance to see how well these work. Seemed to go in ok & not brick the system from first glance. Only notable benchmark I ran was 3dmark 06 (my system is 2820 QM / single 6970m gpu). Seem to of lost approx 130 points as came out with about 19570 when I usually get around 19700 points. Bit dissapointing but will re-run it later.

Noticed if I go into device manager under driver details it is dated 29/7/2011 - is that right? Everything such as CCC, Sapphire Trixx picks it up as version 11.8

    Cheers,
    Wayne

These drivers sucks big time, when i was on 11.4 i was able to minimize COD and get back to the game within seconds, with this drivers i have to wait arpund 1 minute, one minute is a round !, and sometimes the games never come back
