M17xR2 5870CF/4870CF Owners, as per title, Catalyst 11.2 is finally out. here are the release notes.
Highlights of the AMD Catalyst™ 11.2 Windows release includes:
The new Catalyst Control Center features
•Catalyst AI Texture Filtering updates
◦The Quality setting has now been improved to match the High Quality setting in all respects but one; it enables an optimization that limits tri-linear anisotropic filtering to areas surrounding texture mipmap level transitions, while doing bilinear anisotropic filtering elsewhere. This optimization offers a way to improve filtering performance without visibly affecting image quality
◦The Performance setting has been updated to address the sharpness of the default Quality setting causing shimmering in certain cases. It now provides a smoother filtering option that eliminates most shimmering while preserving the improved detail provided by anisotropic filtering.
•Tessellation Controls
◦Supported on the ATI Radeon HD 5000 Series and the AMD Radeon HD 6000 Series
◦New settings give users full control over the Tessellation levels used in applications.
■The default selection “AMD Optimized” setting is intended to set the best level of Tessellation on a per application basis. The “AMD Optimized” setting is designed to help users get the maximum visual benefit of Tessellation, while minimizing the performance impact associated with enabling Tessellation. Currently no applications have been profiled.
■The “Use Application Settings” option gives applications full control over the Tessellation level.
■Users can also manually set the maximum tessellation level used by applications with the slider control
•Morphological Anti-Aliasing support for the ATI Radeon HD 5000 Series
◦AMD Catalyst now includes official support for Morphological Anti-Aliasing for the ATI Radeon HD 5000 Series
Support Video Quality settings during Blu-ray 3D playback
•Supported on the AMD Radeon HD 6000 Series
•Requires Blu-ray 3D player software, 3D supported display and 3D Stereoscopic glasses
•Users can now enable the Video Quality settings within the Catalyst Control Center when playing Blu-ray 3D content
Performance Improvements:
•Call of Duty: Black Ops:
◦Performance increases up to 11% on ATI Radeon™ HD 5000 Series single card configurations with anisotropic filtering and anti-aliasing enabled
•Batman Arkham Asylum:
◦Performance increases up to 4% on ATI Radeon™ HD 5000 Series single configurations with anisotropic filtering and anti-aliasing disabled
Downloads
Due to increase demand on CAP11.2 and driver files, i am uploading it to a public server so everyone can download it. Please share it and not report it to amd. also, if this is not legal, mod feel free to remove the download links. Both files are downloaded direct from amd servers.

CAP 11.2 CAP4 (16/3/11)
M17xR1/R2 owners with Mobility CrossFire 4870M and 5870M will need this Catalyst Application Profile to get the most out of your crossfire setup. CAP will also help increase performance and fix certain crossfire issues like flickering, low crossfire performance, instabilities, etc in new released titles. It is highly recommended for crossfire users to install CAP in conjuction with the latest drivers.
New profiles added with this release:
•Crysis 2 - Improves CrossFire performance
•Dungeons - Improves CrossFire performance with forced on Anti-Aliasing
•Crasher - Forced on Anti-Aliasing through the Catalyst Control Center has been disabled

How to Setup (thanks to steviejones133)
1. Uninstall CCC via choosing uninstall manager and select everything. Remove. (chose this opposed to express uninstall as I didnt like the sound of anything "express"....)
2. Check in Device Manager that you are back to Standard VGA Drivers.
3. If not back at VGA, uninstall/remove devices manually via device manager. This should get back to VGA.
4. Reboot into safe mode (dont boot normally at this stage) - run Driver sweeper in safe mode for Ati Display only (run as admin - important)
5. Re-run driver sweeper whilst in safe mode (again and as admin and for Ati Display only - should come up with nothing to clean after analyzing)
6. Run CCleaner for both clean up and registry in safe mode.
7. Repeat step 6.
Restart normally to windows - will look awful 'cos of the resolution/vga drivers!
8. Re-run driver sweeper (admin)
9. Re-run CCleaner
By this stage, everything should be totally nuked. Gone. See ya later.
10. Install chosen driver package....Dont choose custom install....
11. Sit back and enjoy.
Feedback regarding sleep issues
17/3/11
An older test BIOS for M17xR2 is now available per request from ChrisM@Dell. This BIOS IS the fix we all need to solve the problems related to sleep/resume. Steviejones, Mr.Fox and myself have all flashed and tested this BIOS for 2 weeks now and we are all happy with what we are seeing right now. seems like dell is finally heading in the right direction. PM Chris or email him for a copy of the BIOS and PLEASE remember to post feedback either by email or PM ChrisM@Dell so we can get this test BIOS elevated to "A" revision release.

CptXabaras Overclocked, Overvolted, Liquid Cooled
My internet connection is killing me here
i hope i'll be able to download it. Anyway, this has to be installed as 11.1? i mean, no need to driver sweeper etc.. etc..?

OK I'm lost, why can you post a link to the driver but not the cap?
-
Has someone tried this and seen if the sleep issues have been solved?

Still not clear to me if they can be installed as the 11.1. Over the existing drivers
-
Hey Guys - any one on this thread running these drivers with Crossfire 4870s playing games using Cryptic's engine (Star Trek Online or Champions Online)? I have sat on an old driver forever and it seems any time I upgrade I get massive issues with hitching with this engine... anyone know of a solution to use the ATI cards? Really getting close to saying to hell with it and going to an Nvidia SLI setup, GTX 285M x2 perhaps...

Ugh...another set of AMD drivers that absolutely refuse to install on my R2. Just getting rid of the failed install took 2 hours, just so I could put the Dell drivers back on. Tried installing with Dell drivers on, tried installing after removing/sweeping/etc, tried just installing the driver portion without Catalyst, tried just installing the Catalyst part, etc etc etc. All options just caused failure and for Windows to perma-boot a blue screen until I nuked them from safe mode. *grumble* At least the Dell drivers seem to work fine for everything I play. Had this issue for every version of the 10 drivers too.

Alex - you beat me to the question on your initial post. I was kinda hoping that there would be a fix for the sleep issue........
- obviously you have already tested for that....

Question about the install of these 11.2 drivers.
Do I still have to do all the driver uninstall und driver clean sweep and basically a complet reset of the system to make them properly work or can I just install them over my existing 10.12 driver?? -
-
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Control panel/programs/uninstall....catalyst install manager.....express uninstall all......install latest drivers.
You can try this way, if you have problems, just do as Alex suggests and get rid of the lot, sweep and install. -

Yup, double checked the VBIOS. I definitely have the new ones. My PC still doesn't any of the non-Dell drivers, including mobility 10.8. *shrug* No biggie.

This is right after running the update tool from a bootable disc. I've checked the BIOS number several times :/ Still can't install 10.8-11.2 drivers, whether I clean the Dell ones off first or not. I don't have issues with any games with the Dell drivers, it's just aggravating not to be able to update drivers with the VBIOS that was supposed to allow it. -
I didn't have any trouble installing 11.2 over my old drivers, just downloaded the new ones. Clicked install, it uninstalled the old ones and installed the new. Then I ran CC to clean it up, runs great. I see a difference in my 3Dmark06. I can even see the difference in the screen smoother graphics.
-
It installs 'successfully' with warnings. After that I reboot into permanent blue screens.
I get this response every time:

I installed 11.2 with profile this morning, but saw flickering with Fallout:new vegas and Borderlands. MW2, SCII, WOW, and BFBC2 played just great.

my 3dmark06 went from 19640 to 19782. I still can't get 3dmark11 to run? Error says "keyboard lost focus"

CptXabaras Overclocked, Overvolted, Liquid Cooled
Anyway i installed the 11.2 over the existing drivers and everything is working fine. Actually i believe is the best driver i had so far.
I'll keep it -
Fist page updated with new download links for full win7 64bit mobility driver for those having trouble with direct links.
also updated with CAP11.2 alternative download link. please do not report this and if this is not legal, mod feel free to remove it. thanks. -

guys just one hint for those that are (like me) overclocking their 5870's using rivatuner:
as soon as you install the new driver don't forget to redo the registry mod (EnableUl has to be set to 0 ) since the driver upon installation will reset to 1 some of them (not all) and you will eventually have system hook up as soon as you try to OC. -

Mmmm i got exited for nothing.. looks like this drivers are good for benchmark but gave me a lot of flickering.
Game i tryied so far are Mass Effect 2 (flikers) MoH (flickers) Metro 2033 (doesn't flicker)
I rolled back to 11.1 and everything works fine.
Before to do so, i tryed a clean install of 11.2 (driver sweeper/CCleaner.. well.. you know the procedure) and nothing changed.
Is anybody experiencing this issues with this drivers?
so sad.. finally they give us control over tasselation and the driver doesn't work(at least for me)
-
Finally got everything to even uninstall without a BSOD. After sweeping and cleaning up the registry this is all I get now T_T
I'm getting REALLY sick of this. Now I can't even reinstall the Dell drivers.
EDIT: Seems that Catalyst Control Center does not get installed/uninstalled along with everything else. Even after nuking everything it remains. -
Some sweeping programs do more damage than good!

I will tell you what I have done in the past.
I dont know if my procedure is correct but it has worked for me. No problems thus far. Maybe you didnt run DS as admin which is quite important to do so.
Anyway, hope some of this may help you out! -

Unfortunately, ever since the new VBIOS and Dell drivers, every time I've tried to uninstall (express, custom, blah blah blah) right after the Catalyst Install Manager step it BSODs and goes into a loop. Have to go to Safe Mode to remove it the rest of the way before I can reinstall anything because I can't boot into Windows normally. This still leaves CCC intact with no way to remove it. I figure WTH, continue through the rest of the steps, clean everything off yadda yadda. Everything is cleaned off, but when I try to install it stops with with the log I posted before and nothing ever gets installed.
This is my result, but nothing other than the Install Manager actually got there. Nothing,.
At this point I'm just backing up my hard drives and I'm going to format/reinstall Windows. There's been too many other oddities going on with registry errors and such, this is just the icing on the cake now. Everything was working fine for almost 8 months at least >.> -
Seems I am going to rollback to the previous drivers as well. Horrible flickering in Batman: Arkham Asylum. NFS: Hot Pursuit plays just fine, as does RIFT. Have not tried anything else but will before I rollback for sure. Not going to stop playing Arkham (and potentially ME2 if what CptX said happens with me as well) since those are two of my favorite games right now that I have installed just to have slightly better performance elsewhere.
Boy do I continue to miss my nvidia cards... -
