Thank for the link, I'll check it out. Was running beta 5, but Enduro didn't work right on Guild Wars 2, so I just disabled the IGP again.

 

updated my new 7970 and got extra on vantage, Only 4% better but still better.
Going to soon test other tests too.

it says the 5800 series is supported... why have i never heard of these enduro drivers before? what makes them different?

 

Enduro drivers are for machines with graphics switching which your machine does not have. It's new and mostly for the 7xxx range.

Enduro is AMD's way of trying to compete against NVIDIA's optimus.....although i would've liked a R3 version of switching, where you could simply switch b/w dedicated and IGP within windows...rather than having to restart

Sherry, are all of these drivers meant to be installed within Enduro enabled / disabled...reason why iam asking is, as a portable machine..this thing needs to travel, and within IGP mode i can get about 5"ish hours...any advice...

 

Im not trying to sound like a jerk here, you can install 12.11 betas but...

Everybody on HD 6 series and below should use Catalyst 12.10 WHQL or below since 12.10 is optimized for this series.

Yes the 12.11 driver IS developed for the HD 7 series and GCN (though you can install them on any series, not sure about legacy). 12.10 WHQL and below is the best choice for HD 6 and under.

The new beta driver introduces significant performance improvements for many games across ALL 28nm AMD Radeon™ HD 7000 Series products: HD 7700, HD 7800 and HD 7900.

So what does Catalyst 12.11 bring to the table? In short this is the 3rd major performance driver for the GCN architecture, building upon the gains AMD already picked up from Catalyst 12.2 and Catalyst 12.7. Like those previous drivers, AMD has been working on a mix of game specific optimizations and across-the-board optimizations to better utilize the GCN architecture. While there’s no such thing as a “regular” release schedule for these kinds of major performance drivers, it’s rare to see 3 major drivers in a single calendar year, so this ended up being a pleasant surprise.

Available on select, high-performance AMD Radeon™ HD 7000 Series graphics products, the Graphics Core Next (GCN) Architecture is a radically new approach to the design of a consumer GPU.

The improvements made in 12.11 are for HD 7 series and GCN period, and that's a fact.

And again, I used the word PERFORMANCE instead of SUPPORTED drivers, in this post and everywhere else.

 

The drivers happen to support them, but they were not the focus of the improvements, which targeted different machines entirely.

 

Works on my radeon hd 6950 fine (single card no APU or crossfire). Though there is a performance boost, its more like a 10%

Also works on my 6650m with a APU. about the same performance increase. Though there is a bug in CCC that will corrupt the drivers if I change the Graphic Switch method... W/e though, I dissable my APU for AC use anyway.

Asder00 is not saying its special for the 7970 card, he is just saying there is an improvement for that card.

I came from 12.10 after researching the 12.11 beta drivers I thought I'd skip them and try this. Same for both machines.

Okay, what this has done is that when I enabled enduro, restarted and the login screen appeared, it has immediately given me a BSOD... this happens every time I restart. AMD is now officially excrement in my book and I should just shoot myself for not getting the BETTER and much more solid 680m gtx... Now I can't even switch the thing on!! Will possibly have to do a reinstall thanks to this ENDURO PERFORMANCE DRIVER THAT DOESN'T WORK WITH ENDURO... nice job AMD, really nice job. Is there any way I can switch the idiotic feature off? I can't use the notebook in normal mode... Only safe mode works. I hate it. I suppose this means no OC because of the screen flicker which was supposed to be taken care of by using enduro... Never again will I step into the same river that goes by the name AMD. I hope their rep reads this... If somebody like that is even here.

 

Have you tried starting in safe mode, removing the driver package, installing the original set provided by alienware and installing the enduro drivers over those?

people have run into issues moving from the beta set to the enduro set.

 

Installing over? I thought that wasn't recommended, infact I thought I shouldn't do that. I always do a clean install... I restored my system to a previous point in time and until this gets resolved AMD can just shove this driver up theirs...

 

i can't disable the igpu with this driver now is it normal? fx+f7 does not work anymore

 

Well my problem was that somehow the Intel drivers on the HD4000 got mixed with AMD ones... I have no idea how this happened, I'm very thorough in all my installs... Installing 12.11 howerer didn't go as smoothly as it goes normally and in effect my drivers screwed up and the iGPU couldn't work so when Enduro was on I got BSOD... So I reinstalled my windows and everything works now with the 12.11 although on enduro I only get 7.6 in windows score for games and graphics... Haven't tried any games yet though.
@goldenic, well the gpu switch should definitely work... Do a clean uninstall and try if you can use fn+f7 when standard VGA adapter drivers load... If it will work, install the 12.11 and try again... It should work.

 

well, the option comes up but it does not really work, i know it because when i play AC3 with enduro ON, somehow the game is screwed like wireframe everywhere, but when i turned on enduro with fn+f7(12.11 beta 4), everything works fine
maybe is it because i use UEFI boot right now instead of legacy boot? or because i updated the bios to A09?

Through trial and error, and several corrupted Intel RST caches's, I learned about the driver requirements for Enduro (at least on the M17xR4). In order for Enduro to work, you must have an Intel provided iGPU driver installed, and THEN you must install an Enduro driver that instals an AMD provided iGPU driver as well as the Radeon drivers. When this is done correctly, you will see tha the Intel 4000 driver is 'provided by AMD' vices 'Intel', and when that happens Enduro seems to work just fine. Using the old Enduro perforamnce betas (based on Catalyst 12.10), installed the appopriate AMD iGPU driver as well as the Radon drivers. I installed the new 9.01 performance beta on top fo the old 12.10 versions, and it seemed to be ok, but did not install an Intel iGPU driver. That could be because the one provided is the same as I already had installed, or because it wasn't included. You might want to uninstall all of the video drivers (both Intel and AMD), reinstall the Intel iGPU drivers, and then try the 9.10 betas. If you go to "custom' in the installer, you can see if it is going to install the Intel video driver too (it lists it in the actions), if you do NOT see that, cancel the 9.01 install and try the origianl 12.10 Enduro drivers, as I know they contain the necessary Intel driver, and then you can upgrade the new drivers over those. My graphics swithcing has been "rock solid" since I figured this out. It is pretty finicky, and not really documented anywhere. I guess the idea is to only use driver packages from Alienware (or other OEMs) which would bundle everythign together. Its too bad that the driver updated provided by Dell are so far behind... Oh, BTW AMD does not seem to post up the Enduro mobility driver sets on their main page, so when you download them through the driver update page, you get the wrong version. Those drivers will work if you disable Enduro, but cause problems with Enduro as they do not include the Intel driver. Make sure you are getting the appopriate "mobility" version before you install. As I noted above, in the custom install you can see if it is going to install the correct driver before you comit. Good luck!
