!! wow. they seem to be leaps and bounds in front of nvidia. Now I'm really believing the claims that 7000 series cards will be here before the year end.

Yeah that is exactly what I thought. Since a long time AMD is working on it's mobile video cards better than Nvidia. Remember we had 3 generation of nvidia high end video cards based on basically the same core (8800M GTX, 9800M GTX, GTX 280M), then we had the GTX 480M which was a total fail in the power sense. Now we have the GTX 580M, which is a re-named GTX 485M and as we can see they cost twice (or more) compared to a Radeon 6970m. There is something really really worng with Nvidia in the mobile world. I am starting to think that at this moment AMD is the only and the best way to go.

I really hope they keep the MXM3.0b format, with the 28nm production power consumption and heat should actually be lower so I don't see any problem on that side.
Unfortunately judging from the image, they are changing it, unless that's simply an engineering sample.

Yeah looks like an MXM 3.0 connector. Card is type A, so it's not a high-end card.

Hurray...further proof that the laptop I can afford to replace is even more obsolete. How exciting.

I would love to try them out in the R2. Imagine, what if they actually worked, and were much less power hungry? And you could overvolt :D

The new AMD cards are suppose to be using Rambus XDR2 with twice the bandwidth of DDR5 and using 30% less power.

    I can't wait

This sounds very interesting, hope they will be released in volume.

Maybe I should hold out upgrading to a 6970 or 6990 until these are out....

With that thinking you may want to hold out for the ∞990M Cards. :p

I hope they are compatible with the R2.

I am very hesitant though. Bios A08 or A09 included an update which seemed to add support for additional gpu's - though no one could figure out which ones. I'm thinking the only reason why the 69XX series worksin the R2 is that Dell added exceptions in the bios for that series because they were considering not producing the R3 or M18x and continuing the life of the R2.

Hopefully it was a generic update that opened up broad possibilities.
