I was playing Skyrim today and it crashed to a beige screen. Ctrl+Alt+Del wouldn't do anything so I had to hard boot. Then, windows would start to a black screen. I did startup repair and it had me do a system restore. Then, windows would boot, but just to Intel card. I went into safe mode and uninstalled AMD and Intel drivers via AMD's Driver Uninstaller. Then, I booted normally and installed Intel drivers with no problems. I restarted, and went to install the Dell AMD package. After Catalyst said it was installing the display driver, the screen went black for about 15 minutes (giving it ample time to finish installing) before I had to hard boot again. Then, it booted normally, but back to Intel. No Catalyst Manager, nothing. I went to device manager and it said the driver was unsigned. I disable signing checks, and reinstalled. Same problem... I also tried with 13.4, 14.4 and the new 14.9, but none of them would work. On some instances, Catalyst Manager would say that everything installed EXCEPT for the graphics driver... Is my card ruined?

I'm certainly hoping your card isn't ruined. Nothing like the joy of wanting to play something you like and then something bad like that happens.

I see from your sig you have the same machine as me (except for the video card) - I'm not sure it's going to help much but could always try the boot diagnostics to double check the card. It didn't help me with my first 580m which was on the way out as it reported it ok - but there the drivers were still installed for me. If it's really serious, it may help determine if your card is still alive at least.

edit: F12 during boot and then the diagnostics should be an option there somewhere.

i am having the same issue,
i have the R4 with the 7970M and my problems exist for 8.1 ONLY

    update your bios (if needed)
run diagnostics in BIOS/ AW's bootup dianostics
once you install Intel's IGP driver see if you can FN F7 into the ATI card

i would recommend (as i did for installation on 7) that you install Dell's own latest driver for the RIG
THEN install the the new 14.9's if you can

Obviously this is all possible if the hardware checks out

Ok try this... Uninstall and clean everything, Install the Intel drivers, disable driver signature enforcement and install the AMD driver from the below link...

None of it worked. The diagnostics found everything to be fine. The only issue is my battery is crap, but I already knew that. I tried several times to install either Dell drivers, the modded 14.9 and the 13.4 and none would install. Signature enforcement was off the whole time. Only the latest Intel drivers will install... The dell drivers and 13.4 will say they're installing, then go to a black screen and stay there. The modded 14.9 (as well as the regular 14.9) will claim to have fully installed, then, once I hit "finish" after Catalyst is done, the screen goes black and there is a white cursor underline in the top left corner, and that happens every time I boot to windows. Also, the 13.4 would go to a white screen after the "Starting Windows" screen.

I also already have the modded A12 Bios. I've updated my sig.

Is your dedicated still visible in your BIOS? Try reseating it.

I took out and re-seated the graphics card after cleaning the pins with alcohol too, but still nothing. I also tried to switch to PEG, but then BIOS wouldn't even load and I got 8 beeps, which I googled and people said it's the graphics card, but that's probably only because there's no drivers installed right? Should I try a wipe and fresh windows install?

GPU is probably gone... If you can't install drivers even with my way, its probably gone.. 6970M's have a habbit of dying.. I think its time to upgrade the GPU to a 680M/780M or AMD 8970M...

Damn.... which one is recommended? I googled a bit and the 780m seems to be liked, but they're like 500 used...

How much is the 680m where you are? That's still going to pack quite a punch and I know quite a few folk seem to love that one (especially MickyD1234 who is a big fan :p) for its avowed coolness and performance.

Same price range. And they're all for used cards which who knows when they'll give out... I'm gonna start looking for a new laptop and maybe part this one out, if any parts are worth anything... I've heard good things about the Asus G laptops.

Asus G laptops are good if you get them from a reseller like GentechPC... Gentech can repaste them with IC Diamond so you don't have to worry about repasting them yourself (repasting the G laptops can be a nightmare) and if there are any warranty problems, Gentech will deal with it... Definetly get a G series but through a reseller..
