Can confirm up to now that AMD GPU Clock tool is not working. Can clock one of the card in 4870 crossfire. If this is not related to the drivers, BatBoy please delete.

Common issues & resolution - Alienware M17x Wiki
Have a look here. There are some links in the forum that show you how to flash your video cards so you can overclock them both at the same time. And no, AMD GPU doesn't work for this process. -
i cant figure it out. -
M17xR2 ATI Dual HD5870 GPU Overclocking
I don't know if you have a possibility to do the same with your 4870's as i'm not familiar with them. What i know is that i had to use a bios file for ati bios editor and a settings file if i'm correct for rivatuner, which are for the 5870 only i guess.
Anyway, i can confirm that this Method described is still working with the latest 10.8 (8.761) Beta Drivers from Dell with the 5870's to overclock them via RivaTuner. -
yes i already read that
-
You can use Rivatuner to OC the 4870s as well regardless of driver version. Just added the info to the M17x Wiki: http://alienwarem17x.wikia.com/wiki..._to_overclock_4870m_Crossfire_using_RivaTuner -
I have determined after a lot of trying that any driver version past 10.5a has some sort of issue in this regard with my 4870's. I have an R1 though, not sure if that has something to do with it. Here is an example if what the sensor page looks like if i install anything higher than 10.5a
No amount of uninstalling/reinstalling fixes the problem. I've also tried going from the dell driver to 10.6 or even doing the have disk method from 10.5a to 10.6 only to see this happen before i even restart.
happens with both 10.6 and 10.7. The 2nd GPU cannot be OC'd from windows and will get stuck at 250/200 a lot as well, making games unplayable. I've just had to stick to 10.5a, which sucks since there is apparently an AA performance increase as well as hardware support for VLC in the 10.7 driver. -

It will set the clocks for both GPU's in rivatuner. -
What does the Thermal sensor page look like in AMD Clock Tool for you? Does it look like the screenshot i posted?
-
ignore this please -
sorry i had crossfire disabled.
i guess by enabling it should work however system froze when i set the clocks to 600mhz and 1050mhz.
how do i flash voltage man?
is it dangerous? -
If it's freezing while setting the clocks, you need to first turn on Furmark in windowed mode, let it run and then turn on RivaTuner to set the clocks. I'll have to amend the Wiki instructions. -
used furmark and it worked.
do you think i should flash the cards with 1.10v and set the core and ram clock with rivatuner? what is the max the cards can reach? i have it set at 599 core and 1055 ram. i suppose i will run a few tests like this before trying to flash to see if it freezes.
if it does freeze would it mean that it needs more voltage? i need to consider temps too right? i think anything under 100 Celsius in OK? -
second gpu is showing full load of 100% under GPU-Z while idle. any ideas why is this?
-
Lately i've kept mine at 650/1050 because even with a boosted voltage I don't usually hit 70C during gameplay.
I'm pretty sure these cards are limited by voltage. Ive never experienced artifacting while trying to push the GPU core, just lockups. -
installed the 10.8 beta drivers last night no problems whatsoever.
run 3d vantage on stock speeds and got better results than 10.5 and 10.7.
then i overclocked the 4870 cards to 600mhz core and 1050mhz memory and got a result of around 11500 marks. very happy with the drivers so far. 10.5 overclocked to same speeds only got me 10500 marks if i remember right. will flash 1.10v on the GPUs and then use rivatuner according to Joker's advice and see if i can push further just on 1.10v as i am paying a lot on the air conditioning. don't want to go to 1.15v right now as it is 40 Celsius outside. will run a few games after the overclocks to test too.
Jocker, any chance to convert that 5850s script to 4870s for Rivatuner settings with furmark on startup? thanks in advance dude.
