I would change my Crossfire X of 4870 1GB for 5870 1GB, but Dell dosen't have 5870 1GB in stock with heasink. I would know if I can buy 2 card from Sager for the Clevo X8100 and put it in my systeme with the heatsink of the 4870 1GB. Thx in advance for the personne that can answer fast to me.

If you know how the heatsink looks like, maybe take a picture of it or look it up somewhere, i could help you for sure... But maybe it's faster if someone answers this, that actually did this... What i'm not sure if the clevo cards work, and this should be the more important question imo, don't forget how the crossfire cable is attached or if they differ in master and slave aswell, might be tricky physically hardware wise :D

I don't think they do 5 model of the 5870 1GB, only 2 version of the card are know, the firts without Crossfire connector and the others with Crossfire connector. I hope that someone will tell that the heatsink is the same for I use it to put the card on it . I have received my M17X last night, and I don't would open it, if someone answer to me no, I will resell it and buy a X8100 from Sager, but I would play in Eyefinity, with my laptop and it why I prefer the Alienware with the Display port on it.

MXM3.0b cards generally are all about the same dimensions and have the same mounting points for the heatsinks, you'll be fine.

Oh ok, what about the hardware and subid, that are normally written to the flash? As ours are clearly dell branded and the drivers from dell only install on those with that vbios because dell uses the subid aswell in the inf file. So you will start modding on vbios and maybe driver to get it to work...

The heatsinks will fit, but acutally making them work is probally another matter ;>_>

a or two people have shoved SLI 285's in an R1 with only minor modifications required to use the SLI cable in the R1 on the clevo 285s. I'm sure generally all the 5870's use the same Crossfire connector more or less, but I wouldn't expect a 100% compatible swap. Dell re-wrote power play features in the 5870s, that's all that was ever wrong with them. Clevo 5870s might not last as long on battery power or the secondary card might continue to remain on while under battery, but It should still work.
