As above i have scourced two 5870's for my machine and should be delivered in the next day or two .

Im currently running 2 x 4870's in crossfire with Ati's latest 12.3 driver.

So .... is it just a straight swap of the cards and nothing special needs doing .
Im assuming it will be but just asking if theres anything i need to be aware of ?

    Thanks

If i not mistaken - u just simply remove old cards and replace with new ones. But then u have to reinstall drivers. Why u took 5870's? Why not 6970's?

one 6970/6990 would be much faster than 5870m in CF, heichachi is right, you probably ''wasted your money'' :(((

It was the cheapest option for the 5870's compared to 6970's or 6990's and removing and refitting heatsinks etc.

I once tried to repaste and repad one of my 4870's and couldnt manage to separate the heatsink from the card ( yes all screws were removed :) ).
So i gave up incase i broke something .
Just seems easier for me this way .

I got these cards for £200 all in including delivery ... where can i get the 6900 series for that ??? as i can always send these back .

Cheapest 6990 i found on ebay is £370 ... thats almost double what ive paid .

Sure i would have loved a pair of these but im not spending £800 for it , could get a whole new laptop for that .

Then of course ive read a lot of threads with people getting these and they dont work or stop working soon after ... only use clevo or eruocom cards etc .
Moving heatsinks , repadding or pasting which ive never managed to do and the fear of screwing something up costing even more ??
Not all of us are comfortable doing these things remember lol
I think ive done ok for my £200 and not wasted it at all ... assuming the cards work like they are supposed and promised to work :D

Yea, a single 6970/6990 is easier to deal with and just as fasr as 5870 Crossfire. As far as seperating the cards form the heatsink, sometimes it just takes a little force. The thermal paste is pretty stuck on there.
