    Hi Guys,

I'll be getting a 6970M from Dell tomorrow and I was wondering whether it will work with a 120Hz 3D screen or not. I currently have a 460M 3D setup but Dell has made me a guinea pig for almost a months now. They have been trying to fix a lot of issues with my video card card by replacing them almost thrice in one week.

Is there something I should be aware of? Any input appreciated guys...

I thought you just lose 3D but the display would work fine otherwise. Are you sure it won't work at all?

    Cheers,

A non nVidia card will not be able to drive a 120Hz screen, that is why Optimus does not work with the 120Hz screen. The IGP cannot drive the screen along with any AMD cards.

I'm not sure that the IGP will not work with the 120hz screen or for some weird reason Dell won't allow it, considering that there are many external 120hz screens that will work fine with all types of GPU's I must wonder at Dells strategy around this whole GPU compatability issue

personally I believe that the 120hz panel with work with any available GPU why this is not so in the R3 is quite beyond me, my guess as I've said for many months is to do with licencing , GPU's have been driving monitors of all resolutions and speeds for years, also note that the 120hz panel can run at any speed it likes, options are available in cntrl panel

I didn't mean all 120Hz panels, I was only referring to the R3 120Hz panel. I meant to write "the 120Hz screen" in my first mention of it, like the way I wrote "the...screen" the next two times I mentioned it.
