Just use the offline version instead of the other link. I have quoted Alvin's post above which gives you two links. I used the first one without issue. The second link you posted are desktop drivers FYI.

Those drivers will work on my M17X R3 with 6990M? Please I'm not upgrading till one of you tell me its safe to do that :D

Do I have to uninstall first my old drivers? Thank you.

Im not 100% sure but I think you will need modded drivers with a modded .inf to get them to install correctly on the R3....and dont you mean 6970m lol ;) - unless there's ALREADY a new AMD kid on the block that I havent heard about lolz

I have a similar setup to yours and I did the uninstall as listed here. When I installed the drivers linked though the graphics device is listed as: AMD Radeon 6900M Series and I can only get 1280X1024 as the top resolution.....

With the 17x R3 and the 6970m I've installed 11.4 with the offline driver link above. After full installation I am still running on the Standard VGA driver. The display devices shows that the 6970m is installed but I am unable to switch to it or get it to work. CCC is also installed but will not work.

You didn't mess with the OSD driver did you?

I believe that would cause resolution problems.

Quite certain that 6970m owners are getting Catalyst 11.4 (control center and other fancy pants stuff) installed just fine, but the graphics driver itself isn't being updated at all. At least that's been my experience.

Wrong... I have the full 11.4 package installed on my R3 just fine and GPU-Z clearly shows it to be running the 11.4 driver.

I have found that in the past, if you havent had a prior version AMD CCC & Drivers installed, it will omit the driver version i.e 11.4 from the CCC info window.....just cos it aint in the window, donesnt mean they arent installed...check via device manager and 11.4 are shown as 8.841.0.0

I am still waiting. Looks like its gonna cause some trouble with R3.
For those who have upgraded 11.4 with R3. Do u gain any frames in BFBC2 and Crysis 2? Is there any problem with swicthing gfx? Thanks.

Lol no need to be so snarky.

Anyhow I got the package installed properly, neither of the graphics packages from the AMD main site include ini for 6970, however the www2.ati.com/drivers/mobile/11-4_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl.exe do include the ini. For anyone having trouble with switchable graphics and/or max resolution of 1280, make sure you don't remove the official Dell package. The reason for this is because it comes with the switchable graphics and Intel drivers.

I recommend a mod or someone to update the original post with these, or similiar, instructions:

    1. Make sure you have the original Blackcomb XT drivers from Dell already installed (They include switchable graphics drivers so do not remove them)
    2. Download www2.ati.com/drivers/mobile/11-4_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl.exe (The other packages on the AMD site don't include ini for 6970m)
    3. While installing, choose custom install. Verify under "Driver" that you're being updated to 8.841.0.0. If it says "Current driver is up to date", you have downloaded the wrong package.

Installing this way upgrades the driver (you can verify through GPU-Z or device manager that you have version 8.841.0.0) while keeping switchable graphics and avoiding any issues with stuck screen resolution.

although this "works" you will see some wierdness with external monitors and other wierd behavior for a pretty much equal performance.....i went back to stock drivers.....dell does not like reference drivers!

Hi, skygunner27 and others, so with the latest driver and crysis 2 1.4 patch, the crossfire setup is finally supported?
Really glad if somebody can verify this. :)

I haven't seen any weirdness just yet. Metro 2033 stopped having glitched shadows, everything else is more or less the same.

EDIT: Starcraft 2 pylon fields finally show up. Yay for SC2 on R3s.

So I have heard that the 11.5 drivers are out and work properly in the r3 ( they allow switchable graphics). I tried 11.4 but it did not allow switchable graphics so I reverted back to the Dell 11.3 drivers. Is the 11.5 really that much better. Will I actually notice a difference? Thanks.
