I just bought a Ranger again, couldn't stay away. Traded a good 144hz monitor and $50 for the bad boy in my Sig.
The only issue is, the guy told me it had a dead GPU (780M) caused by the newest windows october update of DOOM
So, trying to fix the 5 beep code, I've
Any help at all would be appreciated!
- Swapped cards for a 8950M (IDK if it supports eDP or if it works, but I'm too tired to dissemble another laptop tonight for a 680M or K3000M)
- Reset CMOS by physically taking apart the laptop and having the CMOS battery reset (might be dead)
- tried the "FN" boot option (https://www.techinferno.com/index.p...r-tweaking-some-options-on-unlocked-a11-bios/)
- AN
Remember, its a eDP screen!
edit: the guy did mention something about trying to boot off the iGPU, and as well the 780M seems to have a few damaged pins aside from being aesthetically perfect

Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
A cmost reset won't work if the bios is not locked as its default to PEG. The only way is to remove the edp screen and install a non edp screen to boot off any card.
Or
You need to install a compatible GPU so you can boot up if you don't have a non edp screen.
If still does not boot , screen is dead. -

Alright some updates, I've tried with a K3000M and it still didn't POST (5 Beeps)
with the 120z screen.
Tried connecting my LVDS Dell M6700 Screen but different connector.
Also noticed the CMOS battery was loose in the socket and that it could potentially not be touching both sides, I'll have to investigate further -
With 5 beeps, try Booting while holding Fn. If it reboots then let go of the Fn key.
This is of course after removing battery and cmos battery and AC adapter then draining left over charge in the system. -

-unplug all batteries (CMOS/Main)
-Drain power (reconnect keyboard and hold power button)
then
-hold FN on keyboard
-plug in AC adapter and wait for it start
-wait for restart
-when it reboots, let go of the FN and see if it boots
Correct?
I tried doing that but I don't remeber if I drained the power/removed CMOS.
I'll try that now! -

Also, I'm using the K3000M for eDP purposes, my both my M6100's have given up the dust and the 780M seems well and truly dead

I went and found my post in the 120hz upgrade thread, only a few pages back so didn't take long but that's basically the steps I took.

Thats unfortunate. I get 7 beeps on mine, have to buy another at a later date.

It could also be RAM releated from what I've seen, but this is starting to annoy me. Thats what I get for buying a dead laptop, I'll just have to get another mainboard later down the line
Thanks for helping me guys, if you have any other ideas about what it could be, let me know -
I have a spare CPU from my R4 unit. Will that work for your 17 R1?

Alright so, I managed to get it to post because, confirming my earlier theory, it was the RAM.
I'm currently loading windows, and I have the battery unplugged as it defaults to the 5 Beeps of DOOM when plugged in.
Also, BIOS seems to be saving so the actual CMOS issue seems to have been a fluke
I'll let you guys know of any updates. -

Should hopefully be the last update, but the Ranger is back and up!
Few quirks, after reassembly I need to reset it while pressing/holding F2
and the right LED light is dying out
