Hi guys, I accidentally dropped my PSU on my AW 17 R1 screen when I went to unplug it from the wall socket and it made a small crack on the bottom mid left of the LCD screen (screen bezel is completely fine)! My screen is a 1920X1080 display (non 3D) and is model LGD02DA. Is there anything that can be done? I am also still under warranty from the basic 1 year warranty Dell provides you with after purchasing the laptop. I live in the UK and was wondering if Dell would send me a technician to replace my screen and also how much it would cost? I also can't find the screen anywhere online if anybody can help me find it and also a tutorial of replacing a AW 17 screen. I am worried as hell as I just brought this laptop a few months back!

Screen will need to be replaced but Alienware won't send a tech unless you pay for it and even then they will probably insist on a depot service.

I don't know about UK but if you were anywhere in NA I would have suggested

LAPTOP SCREEN from $34.99, replacement LCD screens. Repair Tablet, Acer, Apple, iPhone, iPad, Samsung, Dell, HP Compaq, Toshiba, IBM Lenovo, Sony, Asus, Gateway.

Screen for Dell ALIENWARE 17. Replacement Laptop LCD Screens

It isn't super hard to change, you will need to peel the bezel off , take out the screws holding the screen on and carefully remove the LCD cable then do the reverse with a new screen. Ebay would also have a screen that would work.

If you need part numbers specific to your laptop

I presume that you don't have the accidental coverage on your laptop? Just the basic one year? The accidental would have covered this but the basic warranty will not.

They ship worldwide that laptopscreens.com you sent me! Will that screen be the exact same screen as the one that shipped with my AW 17? I don't want a lower quality screen :(

I personally think it would be a good time for you to upgrade to a 1080 120 Hz screen. I have the 900P screen in my alienware 17, and want to upgrade but just can't justify upgrading yet because nothing is wrong with my screen. My last research I did, the screen and everything you needed was around 120 bucks or so. So you would be getting a new and better screen. Just my thoughts though.

When replacing the panel, be VERY careful with the LCD cable that plugs into the monitor. When I replaced my screen (upgraded from matte 720p screen to glossy 1080) I ordered a panel from laptopscreens, and the panel is amazing. The cable that plugs into the panel is very delicate, and can very easily be damaged. When I replaced my panel, I took apart the entire display assembly so I could plug in the cable easily, once it was seated properly I reassembled.

Take your time with it, it is quite easy to do. Just be careful with what you do, watch videos if you feel it will help. There is a LCD replacement on youtube that someone filmed for the Alienware 14 that is applicable to our model.

I would have suggested this but I didn't think OP sounded overly confident in ripping his laptop down ( I could be wrong, no offence intended). Doing the 120hz upgrade is stripping a large portion of the laptop down and it can be a real hassle to get the LCD cable and a working screen revision :) but if the OP is interested in the idea I will be glad to help him. Also not sure where your getting all the parts for $120? The screen is usually $100 by itself...IF you can get Alienware to sell you the cable you can get it for $10 but that is a big if these days and being that the 120hz is gone from the new ones I wouldn't count on buying it from them. Then you need the IR emitter if you care about the 3D and the glasses again only if you want the 3D.

If I recall there's no space for the 3d emitter in the 60hz assembly. You actually need the panels from the 120hz to fit it.

Incorrect, the 3D emitter sits above the panel and they are the same size inside the bezel. It actually sits above the webcam so if that was the case then the webcam wouldn't fit either ;)

The circuit board you can see above the webcam is the emitter :)

Oh man they fixed that good. In the M17x R3 and R4 the emitter was on the bottom left of the LCD panel. Made no sense. It would desync if your hands were on the keyboard and the LCD was at an angle.
