Hi
I've recently upgraded my AW M17x-R3 with an Intel Core-i7 2920XM and a Nvidia GeForce GTX 780M.
My nb has A12 unclocked BIOS.
I ran 3DMARK benchmark with CPU @ default clocks and GPU @ +100MHz GPU clock offset and +150MHz MEM clock offset in EVGA Precision X without any problems, almost 5200 points, BUT when I try to overclock CPU @ 4 GHz following this guide, my notebook shutdown just BEFORE last benchamrk Fire Strike Combined Test. I noticed that the blu led on the psu connector plugged into ther back of the notebook goes off and I have to unplug the power supply from the main for a few minutes to turn on the computer again.
I'm thinking that stock 240 watt PSU isn't enough but, honestly, even with CPU @ 3,6GHz, i have same problems.
What do you think?
Sorry for my bad english, I'm italian.

PSU likely giving out, but worth double checking temps.

Hi,
I've tried to run 3DMARK benchmark again, but this time with Power Plan set to maximum performance and CPU @ default clock, GPU overclocked as stated above.
This time the notebook freezes at the same benchmark, Fire Strike Combined Test.
I'm thinking it's temperatures problems.
What software to check temperatures under stress testing? Also, how can I test CPU? wPrime? -
So, I've tested CPU @ default, Windows 8.1 Power Plan maximum performance
wPrime 1024M @ 4 cores passed

I've noticed that during test CPU multiplier is locked @ 31x.
Isn't supposed that turbo boost with 4 active cores were @ 32x?
Now I'm testing GPU with overclocked frequencies with Furemark. -
Ok, I'll trash FurMark stress test, I'm downloading Unigine Heaven benchmark to test GPU.
I'll let you know.. -

You can also use Intel's Extreme Tuning Utility (XTU). Utility Intel® Extreme Tuning (Intel® XTU)
This can push each setting to it's failure point and roll back - or so it says. I run it once and it's not pretty but the info is useful.
AW Rep's verbal statement when looking at my machine: 'Don't use that on a laptop, they aren't designed to cope with all that stress!'. Could just be a company line though since many people do use it...
I found this when looking for a laptop specific version so it's the same one as far as I can tell? (from an Intel rep).
"The application will not work without the proper BIOS support. The software is only distributed by OEMs that offer systems with the proper BIOS support for XTU for mobile processors. Support for this application flows through those OEMs."
