It can control cpu fan but results in the loss of gpu fan until reboot. I guess I can mitigate by cutting gpu fan.

Would love to know for the future though :)

    Hey TheReciever,

It's normally the blue wire - but of course the m14xr2 wires are all black. From memory its one of the two middle pins. If you use a needle to lift the individual "latch" on the fan connector (one for each pin) you can just slide the pin out of the back of the connector without cutting anything. Then if its the wrong one just push it back in until it clicks and unlatch the other.

Going one further - if you wanted to make this automatic could solder an NC temperature switch inline to the pwm wire something like the below at say 65 degrees switch and place it on the back of the cpu heatsink, so under that threshold the fan is under software control, once the threshold is reached the switch will open (effectively disconnecting the pwm wire) and spin the fan up to a true 100% rpm instead of the software max, which isn't 100%

Interesting, I might give that a try in the future. In the meantime I am just using the compal EC to control CPU fan. It disables the GPU fan but I already cut that wire for now so its a non issue at this point.

    They are 250V-5A, I don't know if they work with 5V 1A?

I can't be certain as i've not tried the mod myself, but its probably nothing more than a bimetalic switch inside so would work with any voltage / current up to 250V-5A.

I just wanted to chime in and say that the pwm header is the second wire from the right if you are looking at the connecter from the "tabbed" back.

Also, does cutting the pwm wire make the battery not active? ive noticed that doing this made my system not use the battery when i remove the plug. its detected in windows and it was working properly before, but now it just shuts off like it loses power when i remove the cord.

Can't say, removing the battery was the first thing I did when I got the machine

Oh cool NC 85* backup switch on the PWM would be great. Stupid HWInfo locks up every so often like once a month. Would be great to have a safety max pwm method.

    Ordered!

I will be making a thread/guide on adding a switch like @Striker1234 did for the pwm fan mod.
