I have aw17 (4900mq, 330W psu) upgraded to 980m 4G (1617 dev. id, g-sync). Gpu-z sensors monitoring informs about downclock to 937MHz under full gpu load. PerfCap reason: Pwr. VDDC decreases to 0.9xx.
Driver ver. 372.70 (self modded inf). Stock bios. WIn10. Any way to fix this?

Maybe try svl7 or prema vBios. I am sure this will solve your problem.

Don't feel that Prema is bad,

He's too busy these days with the Pascal laptops, Clevo 6/7/8 series refresh He has to make sBIOS and vBIOS mods for his Affiliated Prema Partner shops.

Glad that you got the fix, Btw there is Woodz vBIOS option too, I'm running w.o any issues and good FS scores as well, Prema vBIOS is also equally good but the Voltage is a bit high making cards to run hot. Svl7 on the other hand I don't have experience though people are reporting good results.

Hi, I've got the 8gb 980m (alienware 17, 120hz, windows 8.1). Can I use this woodz vbios ? I can't overclock with prema v2 (grey screen and pc freeze under 3dmark as soon as I Oc above 70mhz). If yes which vbios I have to choose: OC or old?

You can try the OC one. I think It's got a slight OC plus the default 135MHz OC capability too.

Vendor ? He's called Woodzstack and a reputed member here since long time He sells MXM cards to NBR users, that vBIOS is apparently for the AW17 with 980Ms, So no G-Sync cards afaik, Yes the GSync vBIOS is different but mostly only limited to DM and ZM series of Clevo computers & Mostly supported only by Prema.

I have 4Gb G-sync card in my AW17, so this vbios may brick it.

Yeah. This vBios is for 8G only.

    4G MXM Variant exists.

Yeah All those vBIOS mods are for 8GB MXM cards, There's special vBIOS for AW18 systems with 980Ms which works for both Clevo and Dell models, Maybe MSI too.

    Wow, I didn't know that !!
Clevo only has 8GB, Dell has 980M 8GB ones in the AW18 limited release, MSI also 8GB who made these 4GB MXM card ? If you don't mind could you link em, thanks !

bga 980M can also be 8gb

though, the 4gb 980M might be better, easier to cool memory if you're into voltmodding like khenglish

Yeah, 4 gigs makes more sense on the 980m especially for the better thermals. But the funny part is that the cards throttle in the GT72 where the 8 gig version in the same machine doesn't throttle.

And what about 980m normal thermals in full-load with overclock +100MHz core, +200MHz vRam without overvolt? I have about 68-70C in FireStrike and 72-76 in DOOM.

Thx! What kind of thermal paste you use? Someone try to use liquid metal on 980m?

Isn't the big gain with Liquid ultra vs good paste like ICD - Gelid Extreme. More need for Liquid ultra on processors

As brother @Papusan said, no need for such extreme measures on the GPU. I am using grizzly top non conductive paste.

True, my 4900mq with overclock to 4200 is pretty hot using AC MX4 (80-86 under full load).

Full load with @4.2 GHz. You mean in Wprime 1024 - XTU bench and Cinebench R11.5? I would think it's impossible with oc'd Hotwell, no throttling and Mx4

Gelid Extreme is a very decent thermal paste(one of the best you can use). Not the same as Liquid metal but very good!! Mx4 is JUNK!!

    not necessarily

in space-restrained cooling system such as the AW, liquid metal is needed on the C/GPU to get maximum performance out of the system

this is not like the clevo which enjoys freedom of more cooling capability

You mean the BGA Echo systems? Because nice OC'd 780m in Aw17 "Elitist" have decent temp with ICD - Gelid Extreme. But I haven't tried 980m in Aw "Elitist". Maybe that's another matter.
