Hello everybody. I would like advice please.
Background is i upgraded my gpu from 860m to 980m a while ago. No issues i think. Heat is fine max 66.c in most games, but my frame rate I'm unhappy with. 25-30 fps with mostly high settings but not ultra (less quality on shadows, clouds etc) 1920x1080 @ 60hz.
Games are fallout4, everspace, assasins creed.....Maybe this is normal for my current configuration?!?!
So I'm trying things to tweak my game playability, increase fps. I was wondering about my graphics card bios. Maybe something different? But what? This is an area a bit new to me so Im reading and reading but mostly confusion.

This is my current setup/bios. I have installed newer nvidia drivers 441.21...but a few programs do NOT like anything above 419.35 (dll crashes etc). Also tried windows 10...didnt like that much!
Should try a different bios from techpowerup? msi or clevo?

Thank you for any insight

I do not think that a different vBIOS is going to correct that crashing issue with the drivers. Not sure what is causing that with newer drivers and 980M. Do you have NVIDIA Control Panel power management set to "Prefer maximum performance" like shown below?

ah..no
I just looked, both those screens are exact opposite..max quality
I will try a run with reversed settings.

The default setting for power management is "Optimal performance" and it is not optimal. It's crap set to optimal.

Ok...I have been playing with nvidia control panel and nothing seems to help fps.
I DID stop being so lazy and used DDU in safe mode to remove old drivers and installed 441.41...everything is working properly now.
Maybe i am just expecting too much from this card with such high resolution.
Not sure, what are other's average frame rates in what game? -
I would say run some benchmarks like 3d Mark and compare against similar systems.
That's one way how I could see my 1070 was throttling. Perhaps your 980m is as well?Hirosake likes this. -
Thank you Magic Micky
you pointed me in a right direction i thinks!
Im checking with a program called play claw...i like it.
If you look at voltage...0.887v.....on a load screen!
Hasnt even started working yet.....anyway..volts is supposed to be 1.1v yes?
I have been searching forums and since my cooling should be adequate
Im suspecting my PSU...I currently have the original 180w....could this be a culprit?
I recently (last month) ordered a 330w PSU from china...might get here one day and I will know for sure.

Yeah the 180W PSU won't be enough. I think the 980M uses up to 122W on it's own. The 240W should be enough but I usually use a 330W on all my machines.

Update.
Ok i can confirm a lesson for me.
GTX 980m will work on 180w PSU, but throttled.
330w PSU and no perfcap! Voltage is a steady 1.050v (instead of 0.800v)
My frame rate in assassins creed is up to 40fps average...still not best but better than 25fps
I would say Im an idiot, but 180w was power brick supplied and it never occurred to me....so I wont say idiot, just
Thank you everyone for replies. @MagicMike...I owe you a beer!MagicMike likes this.
