So I've been running my upgraded R1 with a 1070 for a while and I love. It does everything I need it to unlike my last bga turd. I have even bought a mini display port to display port adapter and have run my Valve Index off of it no problems.

But I recently tried to hook my laptop to my tv using the hdmi in/out port and could not get anything to work. In the nvidia driver it would show the 2nd samsung screen but I could not get a display to it. I tried doing the function keys and switching it etc, making it the tv the only display and still nothing. Iirc I purchased the MSI black pcb 1070 and upgrade to the 120hz panel if that makes a difference. I'm running whatever Vbios it came with and verified it's pulling 100+ watts as I read some had 90w limiters?

My second question is I was messing with my optical drive though I never use it tbh, but I tried inserting an old game to install from the dvd and it caused the system to hang. I forced restart and everytime it initialized the drive to read it would hard lock. I couldn't even get my disk back, so I removed the ODD and manually got my disk back. Which I think I messed up the drive as now it makes a bunch of racket putting a disc in it. I have an external dvd-rw drive and the disc worked just fine in that.

Can the dvd drive be upgraded to the Blu-ray drive from the m17xr4 for example? It would be nice to have a Blu-ray drive for movies on the go if I was to fix it? I don't really need another hdd bay either as I have 1tb ssd and 1tb hdd in the second slot. I can't see needing more storage at the moment so I won't really look at the optical drive to hdd adapter.

Since none of the knowledgeable folks have answered, I will give it a shot. I have the HL-DT-ST DVDRWBD CA40N and it works fine in my Ranger. I don't play many BDs, I primarily use it for ripping, but it works for either

Well I figurd out my HDMI In/Out issue. I was missing the Dell Alienware On Screen Display Application. I downloaded it from the Dell website and now that is all working again! I still haven't fixed the optical drive yet though
