    Hey guys

First of all hi guys , I'm about to buy an M17x, from the Alienware Canadian web site.

I had 2 questions hoping the community here could help me with:

1- Does the canadian M17x come with Bluetooth standard?? Because there isn't an option for it on the Canadian site?

2- Does any1 have any recommandations between The Killer™ Wireless-N 1103 a/g/n 3x3 MIMO or the intel 6250 wimax card?

    3- Finally should I spend the 100 $ for 1TB Raid 0 (2 x 500 GB hybrid solid state drive?)

Sorry for all the questions guys I'm probibally gonna order tonight and I'm excited.

Just wanted to say thank you in advance.

I can only answer #3 but:

dual hybrid hard drives is not a good idea. I would get a single 750gb for storage and put a 128gb Crucial SATA 3 SSD (or something similar) in there in as the Windows loading HD. You can get one from Newegg or Tiger Direct. Also, I do not know if this is true or not, but PowerNotebooks sells the M17x supposedly with a matte screen option.

Of course you would still need to get it into Canada if you got it from there.

    2) Personally, get the intel. Killer is just too overpriced and not worth it for the speeds it offers.

The problem is that, the Canadian site doesn't offer the 750 GB single hard drive I would have went with it if it was offered

    1. bluetooth is standard, at least in u.s.
    2. i upgraded to the killer n, probably no noticeable difference except for benchmarks, like half the stuff in an alienware.
    3. go with one ssd to run windows on. get it and install yourself

You're over-analyzing the situation with the HDD I think. The very good Samsung 830 SATA-III 6GB/s is the SSD that is generally shipping with the M17xR3 and M18x at this point, even though the configuration page is contradictory and unreliable. They have the SSD drives on sale right now in the USA, and maybe in Canada. If you don't want your SSD to come from Dell, then you'll need to decide what you're going to do in the end. Do you plan to install SSD? If not, the hybrid Momentus XT 1TB RAID0 (500GBx2) is perfectly fine. It is snappier than a regular HDD setup and they are good drives.

If you plan to go with your own SSD with a larger data HDD and the largest HDD available is not big enough, then go with the smallest single HDD available to save money and buy both the new SSD and a new HDD for data from another source. Unless you can find a 9MM 1TB HDD (all I can find is 12MM thick) you will be limited to 750GB HDD capacity.

I can only speak for myself, but I consider my M18x the best laptop money can buy. To say I "like" my Alienware M17x R2 and my M18x would be an gross understatement. I don't normally associate "love" with inanimate objects, but it's a more fitting and accurate adjective than "like" for me. Maybe obsession is most accurate, LOL.

It's only my opinion, but I think anything else you might purchase other than an Alienware would be inferior. If Alienware were to go belly-up, as the next best thing I would probably be buying a X7200 variant from FalconNW or Origin. They're overpriced and not anywhere nearly as nice looking. If I were looking for a single-GPU system *shudder* and Alienware were not an option, I would be purchasing a full-tilt maxed-out Dell Precision laptop.

Whatever you buy, please do yourself a favor and pay the extra cost for the Dell advanced 4-year warranty with on-site repair and accidental damage coverage. It's worth every penny.

    Take it this way:
No one buys Alienware out of need. I don't think anyone "needs" a not-so-portable desktop replacement with flashy lights. I also doubt those who keep their Aliens dislike their notebooks. People send them back mainly because it is just not for them.

I love mine. I know every thing about my specific model as I can learn. The first thing I did with it when I received it was not turn it on but to take it apart. Mainly because I was swapping out the DVD to Blu ray, new HyperX rams, 2 new SSDs, repaste the GPU and XM CPU. What can I say? I love my laptop!

yes, I have owned 2 HP's, my wife has a Samsung, and other family members own a variety of other brands and AW is by far the best. Build quality is great, Looks nice, very little bloatware and its almost guaranteed that you will be able to upgrade it in the future.

    Question:

Why is that the AWs GPU price in Dell Canada is expensive compared to the one in Dell US?
