I am about to pull the trigger on a R2 with dual 5870's etc etc. Its a stock configuration but heck I can get it for 1775. Like any other place most of the time forums are for people with problems and not so much people without. I have had a couple Aw's in the past 6-7 years ago and both had issues and ended up sendin them back for refunds. Have the bugs been worked out, really worked out? I dont want to spend hours tweaking and fixing and downtime etc. I play COD2, MF and maybe MF2 soon. Maybe some BC and MOH. For the price its almost a not brainer for the design and potential performance over competitors. Anyone have regrets getting one?

All computers have problems, some are just easier to see than others. Most people that have an AW (especially in the internet) are more... lets say "demanding" of a system. So issues that 99% of the world wouldnt even notice are picked up on instantly by this crowd.

Saying this I have an M17x-R2 and I couldnt be happier. Its a great system and I havent regretted it at all. The first one I bought (and R1) I ended up with massive problems that even dell couldnt figure out the cause of but after my replacement I couldnt be happier. I run anything I want to and I havent had a bit of hickup.

    Its really an astounding machine

It is difficult to compare any computer from to the past to the new stuff. Chipsets and just about every component have come a long, long way. You're going to have to tweak it a little bit, that's just the nature of the beast with high-end rigs. Yes, a lot of the R2's bugs have been worked out, but not all of them. Just like you mentioned, remember that most folks will not bother to start a thread about how happy they are with their computer. I am personally very happy with my R2. I just played through Crysis Warhead again, on Enthusiast settings at about 40fps average. I can't guarantee that you won't regret it, that would be stupid of me. Dell does a good job of trying to keep it's customers happy though, should you run into any problems.

Thanks guys.. I've been relatively problem free for a while. I switched to Macs when vista came out and have had 0 issues with my 17" MBP and MacPro for 4 years knock on wood...

Well I ordered it! It'll be here tomorrow! I'll be hitting y'all up for tweaks and suggestions.. :)

Thanks! I got the standard I740QM. Its a base crossfire model, 6gb ram, xfire 5870's, etc.. I am not as heavy as a game player as i use to be. I spend more time doing photography. But like playing some COD on occasion.

Looks like the NXNT cooler is the most popular for this beast? I am thinking of making it 8gb instead of 6 to help out with photoshop and lightroom... Although it probably wont make a big difference. I definitely need to find where to get a second HD caddy as I think it doesn't have on in the bay by default?

It should come with the caddy and the HD adapter as well. Most all of the ones i have seen/heard about everyone gets it. I think since the first batch of R1's dell has shipped them all with the needed equipment for the second hard drive

Yes, mine came with the caddy and adapter. The Samsung 1TB 12.5mm hard drive also works with the R2. It will ONLY work in the 2nd HDD bay though, and that's with a tiny modification. Congratulations on your machine.

All secondary HDD caddy issues (in the US at least) have been fixed for a year or so now AFAIK.

You kind of have to break off the little tab to get the 1TB drives in there currently (unless someone else has found another way to do it) so i generally dont recommend it. The 750GB drives are 2 platter 9.5mm drives so I generally make do with those.

As to the speed... no the 1TB drives are 3 platter so you arent really makeing any speed gains from density. Plus if you are just using it for storage speed isnt that big of a priority.

Welp the beast is here. Just took it out of the box and plugged it up and booting up. This thing is HUGE.. AW definitely makes you feel like you are opening quality like Apple does with all their products...
