So, I've been chatting back and forth with a rep about specs, price, etc. and this is about where I am. Gotta make a decision soon.
Specs: i7 720, 4GB RAM, 5870s in CF, RGB LED, Intel Wireless, 3 year Advanced warranty, free shipping and 50% off an Orion backpack.
Total with the backpack comes to 2607 before taxes.
What do you guys think? Good deal?

Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
wait they going to release a re design alienware soon and it may include 120hz. monitor and gtx 480m ,usb 3.0
-
I mean, USB 3.0 isn't really that big of an issue with me. The 480M is running super super hot, especially in laptops and the performance gains over the 5870CF are marginal at best and at worst, the 5870CF is better than the 480. Also, I could wait months for a redesign.

Link?
I'm about to pull the trigger on an M17x as well. Flippedbinary do you qualify for any EPP discounts? That can knock 10% off. -
I believe his response was a sarcastic statement.
there's no link, no evidence (other than that 480M's and the other technologies exist) that a refresh with those features in in the works or will be released. -
I might even go so far as to say that I might buy the rv2 to avoid having to deal with 480m GPU's.
-
I do. I'm looking at a super great deal right now because I've been talking with a Team Blackhawk rep for about a week now. 2607 before taxes for i7 720, 4GB of RAM, RGB LED, 5870 in CrossFire, Intel Wireless, 3 year Advanced warranty AND an Alienware Orion backpack.
-
Agreed. Those things are nerfed in the BIOS as it is and pull 100W. Much rather have the 5870 in CF rather than the very minor gain in tesselation performance.
-
That would be my suggestion, every new release or refresh of the M17x so far has been plagued with delays, problems or 'minor issues', like 0 driver support.
-
Lozz, what specs are you running and how do you find they perform?
-
i7 720
8GB 1333 ram
RAID 0 7200.4 drives
RGB/ CF 5870s
it does the job, although sometimes just barely it seems, but maybe that's just because I'm spoiled with my friends desktop. Really don't have any complaints worth mentioning. It wouldn't be fair to compare the M17X to a tri-SLI 980X either too, but once you play @ 2560x1440 with lots of AAA and AF, it's hard to bring yourself back 'down' to PJ CF 5870's and 1920x1200 lol.
About to pull the trigger on an M17X
