    Hi guys,

I am new on this forum but i have been reading a lot from your threads in order to pick my next laptop wich is going to be an aw M17x R4 with

    I7 3720
    8go (gonna add 2 x 4g later)
    gforce 680m
    750 go hdd

I have a few questions regarding the computer because i plan to upgrade it right when i get it :

    1) What brand of ram should i buy? price isnt really a problem i just want a kit with good compatibility with my system

    2) Where can i find a comprehensive guide to overlock the CPU/GPU? i'm not really good with computer so it would be great if i could have an easy step by step guide. I d like to be able to overclock them without having to change anything like thermalpaste or adding a fan or whatever :)

    3) i ve read several threads about it but as you have understood by now my english kinda sucks, so it's a pain where you know to find good keyword for a research :( i'd like to know if i add a ssd in bay one and use the 750go one in bay 2 what do i have to do in order to have everything installed (windows, aw software) on the ssd, i have found a few tutorials about clean install but id like to have it like it's out of the box only with the SSD as "main hard drive". I d also like to know if i can remove the recovery partition rom 750go hdd and still be able to get everything back like the computer is out of the box.

Thanks a lot for your help, sorry for my bad english and sorry if it looks like i didnt search before asking, i really did but most of the times what i read isnt fitting my needs or i cant fully understand what i'm reading :(

    have a good day !

    1) patriot,Corsair and OCZ are all good brands however nothings wrong with simply going with a company such as Komputerbay or Crucial.

    2) for overclocking there are many guides in the forums just use the search buton ;) but a repaste is recommended as the paste dell use is cheap and crappy.

    3) yes you can put an SSD in and move the 750gb over to bay 1. if you want the SSD to be exactly like the 750gb HDD then you can clone it and export it over to the SSD.

Thanks a lot for your answers

So there are no compatility issues with specific brands, all of them can work with the stock ram?

i have found a guide about overclocking here but i'm kinda lost :(

    i dont understand that
    Performance modes
P8 = idle clock speeds and lowest power consumption
P2 = the default mode used when your PC boots or no drivers are installed.
    P0 = Gaming/Load. This mode only accepts boost/offset values

i dont see the point for idle why do you use it for?
And if i use those batch files for overclocked mode do i need to repaste it? in my understanding it seems that it's only using the turbo mode but full time?

And to clone a hard drive i have to install my SSD in bay 2 first and use a software something like that? Whats the exact purpose of recovery partition? if you have the recovery media i mean?

Thanks a lot again i must sound dumb but well computa is serious business

The over clocking for the R4 (CPU) is straight forward once recieved, F2 on boot up and enable Extreme CPU and set values to 40,39,38,38 ( Repaste is a must for running those settings tho as the CPU does run hot at those settings, but are stable for everyday use).

The GPU, well i dont own the 680M, sorry.

ram tends to work in groups of 2's although it is still recommended to have all the ram in a system of the same brand/model. as long as you use the same specs of ram(same mhz) then it shouldn't be a problem if you use different brands in there.

the idle clocks are for when you are just browsing etc, not gaming or doing anything GPU intensive so it lets your GPU "chill out" and not work as hard as it normally would when gaming.

its not necessary to repaste, you can leave it as it is but repasting will have it running cooler which in turn also means quieter. As for the cloning yes you first install the SSD into bay 1 then clone it and move it over into primary bay 0 making sure you put that drive to boot first and select that drive, once you've booted onto the SSD its highly recommended to format the 750gb drive so you don't boot onto that one by accident

note what i'm saying is brief and you can easily find guides on the forums that are very noob-friendly and extensive. with pictures and a step to step guide
