10.11, and yes I would install AMD drivers instead of Dell drivers. Dell's have been known to have/cause issues.

 

The new Catalyst 10.12 with CCC2 (you must replace the notebook CCC install folder with the desktop CCC2 folder) feature a way to change the color temperature of the display. Default is 6500k and I moved mine to 6700k which reduced the red tinge quite a bit.

 

Ive seen the temperature slider before when i had my external monitor hooked up...also the checkbox just above to extend....all of this were prior to 10.12 ..... noticed it as i was trying to calibrate both displays at the same time and was one of the settings i messed about with too.....havent installed CCC 10.12 (desktop version) yet.....

 

Its impossible to share a calibration setting for one screen and have it work for everybody else the same.

Even within the same model of the same screen there are variances and each person screen is different.

As a semi-professional photoshop/video editor I work with calibrated screens, considering I have seen so many "wow this looks great" posts I can probably conclude this is not anything close to "accurately calibrated' as proper sRGB calibration actually looks pretty dull and bland and not very pretty.

This thread should be called "settings to make your M17x display look good" it should not have the word accurate or calibrated anywhere in it.

Calibrating a monitor requires a lot more tweaks than just 2 settings as well.

Yes technically these adjustments are not accurate but rather a matter of preference. Whether he used the proper semantics for the thread title doesn't really matter. He never advertised that a colorimeter was used in creating his settings. I think most people are aware of this and don't feel the need to "call him out" on it.

 

Careful with the vibrancy and saturation settings though you lose dynamic range and colors wash out a bit harder. Why i always hate trying to decide where I want to put it.

Calibrating a screen for accurate color, and what has been done here have NOTHING in common. None of the screens available for this laptop and for most even display any majority of the viewable color spectrum nor are able to be calibrated properly with professional tools.

The idea behind calibration is usually for Photographers, Graphic Designers and anyone working with print media. Print media can not reproduce what is seen on screen, nor will a screen EVER display what you see in print. The whole idea is to get all your production displays regardless of manufacture, age, capability to display as close to a color space.

In that respect even the same display cant be calibrated using the same file as another. If you ever try to use a calibrator on your settings, it will either reset them or fail. Screen has to be at a certain gamma setting.

A "Calibrated" screen actually looks a tiny bit yellowish in comparison with its original profile. Looks like crap for gaming if you ask me, gets worse with screens that can't be calibrated properly. I usually do like you do for the laptop. Get i to where it looks right to me.

Its also impossible for someone to "Accurately Calibrate" a screen by eye, I am sure you have seen some of the color illusions that show you why. It is however possible to make something agreeable as you have. Not everyone see's color the same though... or at all.

Hi there. These calibration settings also are applicable for games? or do they just make the desktop look good?

 

They work everywhere once you have the latest drivers. I had some bug using the ones from Dell website that cause minor flickering in games.

 

If I do this, can it affect the lifespan/damage the screen?

No not at all, the screen will be perfectly fine!

 

I like these settings too but it brings my brightness down considerably.

 

The settings bring the saturation down a bit making it seem slightly darker. It helps bring a more even color balance. Although your individual screen may be slightly different than other RGB LED screens, so you might be noticing a subtly different effect than others are getting.

 

Is this for the old or the new revision of the rgb panel?

With this setting I am getting a lot of flickering when entering a game. From what I have read, this can be resolved by updating CCC. Will a catalyst contol panel installed from ati's website instead of dells void my warranty?

 

No. It wont void your warranty. You can use AMD's drivers instead of Dell's video drivers and you will se a nice jump in performance too. Im not sure how you will get on with altering CCC settings for picture - they may still "flicker" when adjusted.

It seems to be a fairly common issue that if the screen is "calibrated" using CCC, it does bring about flickering....I experienced it some time back....i just use default at the moment without flickering.

Actually this seems to be an issue with Dell's drivers and this tweak. I read about it earlier in this thread and once the old Dell drivers are removed (and all remnants cleaned) and ATI's latest installed, at the time it fixed the individual's issues. It's somewhere in this thread. You could try to update the driver and it would probably work just fine after that.

It won't void your warranty or anything, and it's always good to try/use the latest drivers for your video cards as they generally bring performance increases.
