    Adding WirelessHD into M17xR4?

    If I want to add a wirelessHD card into my R4, does the R4 come with the antenna attached and all I have to do is put in the card, or do I have to pull the antenna too?

    I think it was removed in favor of the mSATA. I'm not sure if it will work in the same slot or not. Don't quote me on that though.

    You're right, it was removed in favor of the mSATA. Also, even though I haven't tried it, I'm pretty sure it won't come with the antennas as we're not offering WirelessHD on any of our computers any more.

    Still there's some other ways to display things on your TV wirelessly :p

    There is still a WiHD Slot under the keyboard!
    The mSata is on the left side under the Touchpad.
    Look in the manual. Around Page 50 you will find the Slot and it's really there!
    But i don't know the Bios Support Status. I think it's not atm.

    I'm interested in both items in this tread.

    1. What good alternative is there to Wireless HD? I just saw a demo and it looked cool. My daughters love watching me play portal 2. So I was thinking of hooking that up with wireless hd.

    2. There is a special slot for mSata? So does that Mean I could have my 750gb hd + 256gb SSD and a msata card on the m17x. I thought that was only available on the 18x model.

    With Intel Wlan u can buy a Router/ Receiver and use Intels Wireless Display Tech. But with Intel GPU only ;)

    mSata Slot is on every M17x R4 Mainboard. But you need to disassemble a lot. I needed half an hour for installing the mSata but it runs great (on Sata II mode).

    Im searching for the WiHD Card Slot pic from Mitchell2.24v

    You're completely right, I confused it for the M14x R2. My bad :/

    On the other hand, you would still need the antennas.

    Yes I have inspected the R4 mobo and there is indeed a WirelessHD slot in addition to the mSATA slot. The card also will not function without the antenna as it is a second chip. I'll be doing this with my R4 in hopes that it will work.

    If anyone is still wondering about this... you can buy the Antenna and WirelessHD card seperate and install it yourself, I did this yesterday. Works great.
