I recently received my new AW17 which, according to the invoice, came with a single 512 Gb mSATA SSD and a 1 Tb 2.5" SATA drive.
I wanted the machine configured in RAID 0 but tech support informed me this would only be possible if I have 2x 512 Gb SSD's. They quoted me 749 euros for the 2nd SSD but I found one from Samsung on Amazon with a 10 year guarantee for over 200 euros less. The tech agreed that Dell prices were outrageous and that I was perfectly at liberty to source the drive elsewhere. The only thing I would need to buy from Dell was a support bracket for which they charged me 30 euros.
So far, so good. But I ave now received both the drive and the support bracket. The latter is for a 2.5" solid drive. It is the same size as a regular 2.5" SATA drive. As I said previously, the original invoice says my machine has an mSATA drive so I ordered that on Amazon and it is nothing more than a tiny PCB of about 1.25" x 2.0".
If any of you have opened up your AW17 can you tell me which of these components is the wrong one please?

The aw17 has 3 hdd bays. There is a msata drive under the palm rest. This is usually stocked from the factory with a ssd, when you purchise another ssd for the computer you should buy a 2.5 inch one to put into one of the other 2.5 hdd bays.
The one you got from amazon is a msata drive, that would go under the palm rest if you didnt have a drive there already (sounds like you already have a 512gb drive there) -
Thanks for the clarification.
