Hi guys,
I have been seeing many comments about leaving the RAM and HDD as "basic" and then upgrading them manually. Something about it being cheaper and more awesomeness for the same price.
If this is so, can someone give me more info about that? If say i leave it as 4Gb RAM and 320GB HDD, how do i go about getting the Vertex HDD and 8gb / 16gb ram manually installed into the system? Where do i buy these? Is it tough to install? Manual install or get a techie to do it?
Please advise.
Thank you.

I haven't gotten my laptop in yet, but I have a high confidence level in taking apart computers, so I'm doing my own when I get my extra parts. It looks pretty easy actually. In the general faq there are videos posted showing the breakdown. Here's a breakdown video for the M17x.

You can change the RAM and HDD later by yourself quite easily. As long as you have a second hard drive caddy, interposer and screwsif you decide to still use the original HDD (check by removing the battery and central cover). Just following the manual and you should be fine.
I have already upgraded my M17xr1 myself and bought the bits from Crucial and ebuyer, although if your in the US, everyone buys stuff from newegg. -
Thanks for the reply guys..
I am interested in getting a 8gb ram and a SSD hdd for my new m17xr3.. Possibly a 16gb ram if it is at a gd price..
So i shall buy frm newegg? Can anyone give me recommendations on what to get for these 3 components?
