Ideally you need just any brand 1600mhz ram, if your thinking of keeping the included ram, you need to know that the speed of the ram will be locked to the slowest ram sticks which are the included hynix ram 1600mhz but CL11, ideally tou need somehting like 1600mhz and cl10 or cl9. Tbh it wont make a big difference unless your maxing your ram out.

Ideally I would get 2x8gb sticks. Avoid 4x4gb sticks are 2 of 4 slots are awkward to get to.

On my M17x R4, I have 6gb of RAM on it but its located under the keyboard. Is it easy to access that spot? And will I void my warranty if I attempt to remove the 6gb of RAM and add my own RAM?

Under the keyboard requires a bit of dissassembly, its not hard, just takes a while. I'd just leave it in if its under the keyboard, and put your new sticks in, the lower speed won't make any difference tbh.
