Recently, everytime I login the aero theme is turned off and the only thing to make it work again is by restarting the my laptop. Anyone here who is also experiencing this?

I have had issues with Aero shutting off when I switch to the IGP myself. It seems like it was not this way until recently. Once in IGP mode, which should be fully capable of running Aero, I can find no way to re-enable it manually. Restart required, bugs me ...
-
Me too! It really bugs me. Hope there will be a fix for this.
-
I found that the new ATI drivers have disabled my Aero. Not sure which version did it but I am running 11.5b. I really don't feel like going back to see which one is the cause since I now have all my settings good for my games.
-
Interestingly, I have never updated my video drivers at all. I have the stock drivers on the Dell/AW site for the ATI card. I have installed a few older games which have been too un-intelligent to realize the DX11 fully provides all of the requirements of DX7.1 and forced me to install some older versions of DirectX.
I can't imagine that would be the case. -
Occurs to me too, but I do not have IGP enabled (120hz screen)

Follow the driver install sequence found in this thread:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...install-ssd-instructions-recommendations.html
Then run all Windows updates. Finally, update your WEI score and Aero should be working like normal. This worked for me on several clean installs. -
He might just need a reinstall of the ATI driver. Just install the new one (m18x one?) and you should be good to go, I think.
Otherwise, try to change your theme via rightclick>personalize>themes. Pick something other than the AW one, and then reboot and see how it works. It's sometimes glitchy on my dinodesktop too, so a switcheroo once in a while "refreshes" it, I think. -
I tried all ways possible and I get sometimes the same issue (doesn't matter which driver you use for the GPU). As you all can see, it has nothiing to do with ATi driver, denogun has a NVidia GPU... It could be a issue with the new chipset driver.
Believe me, I did like 5 clean windows install and tried all the ways possible (old driver, new driver - M18X, ATi driver) same issue. Only if you follow the step with the clean install SSD, you do not get all the time AERO issue. And even when you get it, just log out and in again witout the need of restarting your system... -
Happened on my m17x (updated to latest available drivers at the time) before I sold it. Happens on my brand new m18x, with stock drivers and continues after updating to 11.5.
I don't recall my stock m17x ever doing it...I believe its one of the later drivers that we're installing that's the culprit. -

Same problem here running stock drivers, this is starting to get anoying to pay top dollar for a system riddled with problems.......
-
just started happening with me
m18x drivers (on 17xr3) -
....except I can't get it to turn back on?
is this .
edit: got it to start working properly again by loading optimal defaults in bios.
Remember to switch back your sata operation if you didn't install OS in RAID. -
This has been affecting me as well every other boot up Aero is off.
This passed time when I started up all the Windows went really slow like the drivers weren't installed except it wasn't skipping is was super smoothe just in SLOW MOTION...
EDIT: Aero was on that time, ironically -
Try this guys. pepemosca referred me to a link that told me to disable quicktime on startup thru msconfig. You guys should also try it out.
-
Quick time is already disabled on my case....
-
Well that made my hopes down.
Edit: Will still try to disable quicktime on startup and will report if I will still experience this. -
same here too. very annoying.
-
This has happened to me a couple of times in the last week. I found that I didn't have to restart, however, but just log off and then back on. That fixed it just as well as a restart did.
Running Optimus with the 460M, latest Intel IGP drivers and original Dell A00 Nvidia drivers (266.08, I think). -
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
having the same problem as well. its getting to be really annoying
-
Its been happening to me for the entire month i have had this brand New m17xR3 and i disabled aero from clean install too!! Gerrrr my Crysis2 just switches to Desktop randomly as well... this whole debockle is very annoying ... ^^i also agree^^ ... i payed a lot and got a geeked out system, hope there is a fix ive tried everything i can find... with no answers :/
-
I sometimes have this issue as well, mostly after switching to the IGP as others have said. A restart fixes it. I even went in to enable Aero when it was off and it was already enabled and running, but not Aero.
-
Windows too should have a fixed setting for this.
-
This is also being discussed in the M18x forums as well.
Some people report it's the OSD causing aero issues when switching graphics. Rebooting it seems to resolve the issue till you switch back.
Some people have also reported running WIE to resolve the issue too.
Hopefully our good loving friends at Microsoft will release a update to fix this issue.
The thread in the m18x forums can be found here.

May not be helpful but I'll share my brief experience. Got my M17x-r3 a week ago and immediately swapped out the HDD for SSD. Everything was sweet except for the Aero turning off when switching GPU. I presumed it was a buggy install of Windows so I reinstalled Windows again. This time the Aero turned off when switching and sometimes was off on start up. Not happy with that I did the power drain trick and reloaded windows a 3rd time and this time it's gravy. Aero has not bugged out once on this install (touch wood).
Aero theme turned off on startup
