I have an alienware M17x R3. It's been over a year so I decided to clean laptop and do a thermal repaste on both CPU and GPU. After closing everything up and powering on, keyboard lights come up, no display, and 8 beeps. Tried f1+fn...yada, yada. All quick fixes recommended. Removed dedicated graphics card and was able to post. No 8 beeps. Re installed dedicated. Reset BIOS. Reset windows 10, gave me intel hd graphics card, ABSOLUTELY would not recognize dedicated, reset Windows 10 again, removing all programs except personal files. Able to reinstall graphics card driver. Worked fine. Auto shut down cleared drivers for dedicated and now it's back to 8 beeps. Currently cleaning paste of to make sure no paste is on pins. Any other ideas????

I was able to solve my issue. I cleaned off the new thermal paste again and made absolute sure there was no debris on any of the pins on my GPU. Made sure it was completely dry and then I reconnected the heat sink, and put everything back in. Let it sit for about 20-30 minutes before I powered on, and the voila! No more beeps. Nothing was fried or damaged thankfully. I have had a lot of issues with thermal repaste since I've upgraded to Windows 10.
