So I ordered my m17x while the 680m was out of stock. I got the 675m, and I want to upgrade it when I get the chance, but I can't find anywhere that sells the notebook video cards (the sales rep said I couldn't buy parts direct from dell).

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

upgradeyourlaptop on ebay, Eurocom in disguise :p and get the 7970m IMHO its better. If you contact Eurocom and tell them the notebook you intend to install it then sometimes they even give discounts as they did for me :D

Thanks for showing me that! The 680m kit is an arm and a leg though  That being the case, the 675m should do just fine for a while

Yeah... the 680M is fairly high priced. XD It's almost worth it due to the 4GB framebuffer it comes with. :D

Though, the 675M is still a fairly powerful card in it's own right. If you flash the GPU to use a higher voltage you can get up to around 850mhz on the core and close the gap with the 7970M. I've seen your card hit around 18k in Vantage while the 7970M hits 20k. Not bad if you ask me. ;)

Thanks for the tips, but I'm not big on overclocking. I guess I will if i feel that I need to, but I think that the 675m on factory clock should do fine for the stuff I see myself using it for (Call of Duty, Battlefield, TF2, AC, LoL etc). It seems that all but the most demanding games will pull at least 60fps. Later on down the road when games become more demanding, I will definitely look into overclocking, then, eventually, upgrading. I'm hoping that the 680m will have dropped in price by then (I'm sure it will once the newer cards are released)

i think it might be a while for a new card to come out as the 7970m and the 680m have just entered the market, that too with a huge bang :D
