Sorry if this has been posted before, but I can't locate the right thread :p . I've decided to play AOC again but the game just won't start at all, only a pitch black screen (Task Manager lists age2_x1.exe as 'not responding'). I've disabled the intro by using the NoStartUp command. I've reinstalled many times, applied the 1.0c patch and no-cd crack to no avail. Strangely, the original game AOE II: Age of Kings can still be played normally (with or without the expansion), only AOC crashes. I've been googling for hours and nothing helps, but this post suggests that other M17x users are facing this problem too. I used to play AOC a lot on my old HP Pavilion dv7t (C2D, 4GB DDR2, Win7x64). Maybe some hardware/drivers on the M17x are causing the problem?. Can anyone help? Thanks

Specs (with all latest official drivers installed)
    i7-820QM, 4GB DDR3, Xfire 5870, 160GB SSD, DW1520 b/g/n, Win7x64

Can also try running the game in compatibility mode as well. Right click on EXE file, Properties, Compatibility tab, enable "Run this program in capatibility mode for:, and select from the options. I suggest Vista with SP2 first :)

Xfire turned off, Compatibility mode .etc.. Nothing works. I might just give up, or go back to AoE 1 The Rise of Rome :(

I literally spent 10 hours trying to get it to work. I tried every combination of driver/CrossFireX on and off/ compatibility mode. The expansion will NOT work on an M17x. There's more on the web about it too. Seems to be an Alienware thing, as dumb as that sounds. At a LAN, my friends had all different brands of laptop where the expansion worked just fine.
