    Hello Forum!

I am the happy owner of a Alienware Laptop M17x. with Windows 7 Home Premium preinstalled.
Long story short I did a alienrespawn and formated the drive with no file save.

Everything is cool, except for my keyboard LED lights. After 2 days of google with no joy I ended up here. Last stop before spending hours on the phone to Dell..

I did a reinstall of Command Center - no joy.
Found FAQ on Alienware Computers - Custom-Built Gaming Desktops and Laptops telling me to change theme after reinstall.
I dont have any menu / option to change theme as my CC looks like this:

    Imageshack - ccimage.jpg

Also tryed the reg fix: http://aliendl.alienware.com/Mobile/m15x/Win7/AlienFx_KB_Fix.zip

    No joy.

    Need help..

    Thank You /Buli

You will have to call Dell and get a replacement motherboard, the same thing happened to me. It isn't so bad should take about 2 days, just make sure the tech applies the thermal paste correctly.

the controller is built into the motherboard, and once it is dead the only way to fix it is to replace the motherboard

The pc is brand new, so really hope that doing a respawn will not burn my motherboard. I didnt change anything like bios ect.

Any chance getting another version of CC will help ? Would love this one:

    YouTube - New M17x

..since my version seems really dull compared to this one. Question is will it work on my system and where can i download it. (Myhive?)

Read somewhere that removing the battery and powercord + holding down on/off button would reset lighting problem ?

    appreciate the replys.. /Buli

My M15x AlienFX board (which is on the motherboard and controls lighting) got bricked after I reinstalled CC from the resource disc, which also installs a firmware for the AlienFX board. The resource disc has an older firmware, which corrupted the newer firmware originally installed. Maybe when you reinstalled all your files, the AlienFX board firmware got corrupted

I dont have any resource disc. Was relying on the respawn to reinstall ALL files as they were when I got the laptop.
Guess I just have to call Dell monday.

Your motherboard will have to be replaced. True. This happened to me; the mobo was replaced but the lights were still out. I called back and the guy insisted that the mobo be replaced AGAIN... I was highly skeptical (what are the odds, right?) but with the second mobo replacement, everything was fixed.

Huge pain in the butt. I probably lost 10 hours of my life fixing this stupid problem.

    @Buliwyf,
Before resorting to mobo replacements, open the system and re-seat all the connectors/cables on the keyboard and touch panel. Then enter the FX editor and try changing the keyboard color again.
If that doesn't help, try power drain.

    --- ! UPDATE ! ---

I called Dell support. The tech told me that the driver is faulty and they are working on a new one. Until then I was told I could download the driver for M15x command center and install that.
It would however remove the lights on the 2 alienheads. (On/off buttom and head on the screenlid)

I installed the driver for M15x Command Center. I didnt install the OSD light app.

Now its working! And all the lights are working, I.E it didnt remove my alienheads light as I was told by Dell. :D

    To alienboy24:

There is no menu's in M17x Command Center. (See my CCimage) There is however in M15x CC.

Thank you all for replying to this thread. Problem solved.

    /Buliwyf

Could you please post the link where you downloaded the driver? Thanks.

now HOLD up,before you go and do something as complex as replace or request a new motherboard from dell (which can take up to a month or more if you mail it out) ask for a new keyboard first, i had SAME issue and not even replacing the motherboard will help if the lights on the dead kb is the issue, even if the keyboard works that doesent mean the lights on it will work too, replace the keyboard before you replace anything else. I replaced my keyboard and it worked fine, also check the flex cable underneath the keyboard, may be lose or damaged. good luck :D
