Hey guys,
So I have the "enable 3rd party access" enabled for my Alienware 17 alienfx. I recently had to restore my computer. Before when I would play a game like XCOM Enemy Unknown or Enemy Within the lights would change after the game would start. No big deal.
Now after the restore and reinstall of the game when I launch either XCOM game the game goes to launch and the lights go off then on and then the game starts but the lights don't change color until I actually get a game going.
For example, before I'd start Enemy Unknown and when the game would launch the lights would go dark and then come back on blue. Now the lights go off and come back on and then the game launches causing my profile to stay active which is all red lights. I've even noticed some slight flickering in certain zones of the computer at times.
Once I start a game and get things going the lights finally change.
Has anyone else experienced this problem or is this even a problem?
I have no issue with the lights changing I just don't think that alienfx is adhering to the game like it should.
I'm not sure if there was a game update in Steam that caused this to happen or if for some reason alienfx is having a problem releasing from my profile and adapting to the game profile set by the game. (I do not have any game profiles set in alienfx.)
I've tried going dark and even changing to a different color scheme and I still have problems. I've done all the troubleshooting I can think of, I'm seriously considering just disabling the 3rd party access at this point.
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this or is experiencing the same "problem" so I know I'm not the only one?

Hey guys,
So I'm going to say I've got it working now. I saw that I had the 3.5 version and not the 3.6 version of Command Center. I followed the steps in this article http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/04/SLN128904/EN?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04 for the uninstall and reinstall process.
- Drain all power from the computer. This process consists on:
- Turn off the computer
- Unplug the power cable and battery (for laptops)
- Press and hold the power button for about 20 seconds (the computer is not expected to turn ON)
- Reconnect the power cable
- Turn the system on
- Update the computer BIOS to the latest version available at dell.com/support
- Uninstall and Reinstall the Alienware Command Center Software.
I used RevoUninstaller to uninstall Command Center to make sure I cleared out all registry items that were associated with it and I already had the latest BIOS installed.
After the installation of 3.6 I was a little worried because my lights did not come on at all but after launching Command Center once it did a small update and the lights were back. The are also responding to the games now! I know before when I played The Witcher 2 the keyboard would go dark and now it switches to a yellow color when the game launches. As far as XCOM I can tell AlienFX is taking over because no mater what color I have set when I start the game it flashes on then off and when it comes back on the color is the same but a bit darker. Once a game is loaded and there is an action that requires the lights to change they finally do, Enemy Unknown (Blue) and Enemy Within (Yellow). For example I can load a game and once I click on the command room with the huge holographic globe map the lights change. This is even after an uninstall and reinstall of the game so I'm going to say its acting as it should even though I remember it acting differently before. I'm thinking it has to do with a windows update with the .net framework. Currently I have 4.6.1. It was updated through windows update a while back and I also need it for a few other programs I run.
Just thought I'd give you guys an update in case anyone else runs into this problem.deadsmiley likes this. - Drain all power from the computer. This process consists on:

Glad you got it sorted out and I appreciate the follow up on the resolution so others can benefit.

Ok guys so I wanted to get this going again.
I did another restore on the computer so this time I have Command Center 3.5 running. Same results as I had after installing 3.6.
I still don't think things are working as they should when it comes to the 3rd party lighting.
Has anyone tried 4.0 on the Alienware 17 (2013)?
