Well, after I upgraded to a 1200p RGB LED screen, I have been unable to get AlienFX working, all the lights on the laptop are turned off and my laptop doesn't even show up in the Command Centre software. I also get an error popup from Alienware CC whenever I boot up my system. I have ruled out that this is a motherboard issue because after I bought a new motherboard after my old one fried, AlienFX didn't work, so I assumed it was the motherboard and got a replacement. I have never tried this screen on my original motherboard because the screen arrived a day after I fried it.

So, is it just that the M17X R1 is incompatible with the lights on the LCD, and that's what's causing nothing to light up? The 1200P RGB LED is gorgeous and is working perfectly, so if swapping my old screen for this one results in the loss of AlienFX, I'm fine with that, I spend 99% of the time looking at the screen and not the lights anyways - but it's good to have if you know what I mean. Has anyone gotten this screen fully working with AlienFX in the M17X R1 before, and is there something extra that I have to modify to get it to work?

Here is the error code I get upon boot up:

Have you tried reinstalling the command center or running the AlienFXTester.exe that is located on the command center installation folder?

Yes, I have reinstalled command center and run AlienFxTester, but to no avail. AlienFxTester says that there is "no board detected." I have tried this in both Windows 7 and * fully updated. Here is a screenshot of AlienFxTester:

Motherboard needs a replacement, probably because it was replaced without removing the command center or reinstalling and both had different AlienFx Firmware.

    So if i understand correctly:
old screen + new mobo = Fully working laptop?
new screen + new mobo = No AlienFX but everything else is working?

If you haven't tried already, use the old screen to make sure the new one is causing AlienFX to go blank ;)

Correct, I have just tried that and it is a problem with the 1200p itself. Comparing the backs of the two screens, they both have different boards under the screen where the glowing "Alienware" logo is. Also, the 1200p screen did not come with the ribbon/LED panel that lights up the Alien Head logo on the back of the screen. Pretty much, there can only be two reasons that AlienFX does not work: The motherboard is not compatible with the board on the 1200p screen for lighting, or because the AlienHead logo light is missing it is causing a disconnection in the whole lighting setup.

Just out of curiosity, have you tried attaching the old screen, then setting the Alienhead to "go dark"/ no light, then reattaching the new screen? The disconnect could possibly be that it is trying to activate your color schemes and like you said the alienhead had no ribbon for the alienhead. Maybe if you set the scheme to have no light there, it won't notice a difference and just start up everywhere else.

I very much doubt that could case, but just in case it is, could you remove the cable from the old one and put it in the new one. It should be the same as i recall....
