OK so I bought a 1 TB SSD and did a clean install on my computer. After following the Initial Drive Installation article for my computer the last thing you do is install Alierespawn. Once it was complete I made restore discs. I believe I have picked up a virus from a file I downloaded off a website for firefox. I was wondering if I can just use those discs to get back to a fresh install state or do I need to do a clean install again.
The SSD I have is a Samsung EVO. I have already wiped the drive through the Samsung Magician. My only question now is that if I can use the recovery discs which option do I choose?
RESTORE MY COMPUTER
FACTORY RECOVERY - DELETES DATA AND RESETS ALL PARTITIONS.
Remember I have already wiped the SSD. I'd think all I have to use is the restore my computer option since the drive is already wiped clean. Any advice would be helpfull.

Factory Recovery - Delete and Reset All Partitions.
Using AlienRespawn is perfectly fine. I've done it several times. It should be a straight forward and quick process. -

That's an old video. They've since updated AlienRespawn and those options (in the video) are no longer available or have changed.
He shouldn't have any issue with restoration. It's very easy. -
It still applies though - the main options and procedure is pretty much the same.

OK I'm confused now. I've been told to use either method and the article I just read through dell said that the Factory Recovery option would use the recovery partition to restore the computer. Since my drive is empty I don't have a recovery option.
If I remember correctly from doing this before I believe the restore my computer will not create a recovery partition. But the Factory Recover will create a recovery partition from the restore disc's and then restore from the partition. Does that sound right? -
I guess I'll just do the Factory Recovery option and see what happens.
-
Factory restore should create the recovery partition and then recover the the OS with all the drivers and AW selected software already installed. That is how it works in most laptops, not only Alienware/Dell.
Let us know how it goes. -
Well I didn't have a choice. It's a new respawn system. It check to see if it can repair your system and if it can't it restores it. It's starting the process now. Way different than before.

I did a clean install the moment i received my A17. I remember installing alienrespawn and it automatically creates a recovery partition in my c drive. I dont like a recovery partition in my c drive so i uninstall it. Never touch it again.
Is there an option during installation where you can choose where/what drive to choose for the recovery partition? -
So I got done with the recovery process. It took an estimated 30 minutes to complete. Very easy and straight forward. Once complete I didn't have to set anything up. It booted right into Windows as if I had never restored at all. I did have to label the recovery partition as it had no name at all. Also the start up splash screen was reverted to the windows vista start up screen. You know, the one with the green bars. That was a simple fix as well. You just have to run an elevated command prompt and enter bcdboot % WinDir% /. en-US and restart. The only other thing I noticed is after I ran windows update for the first time it ran about 157 updates. One the computer had restarted and allowed me to log in the computer hung up after I hit enter. I had to hold the power button down to restart the computer. I did start windows normally after powering back up and had no further issues.
Just wanted to let you guys know how it went. I hope this thread can help out someone in the future.
