Alienrespawn keeps throwing out discs and telling me rewritable discs aren't supported. I'm using DVD-R's though, not RW's. It says the basic utility supports writing to disc, so not sure what I should do? Thanks

Try putting it into an USB device. Can you?

Hi there, just got off the phone with Dell and they were s stumped as me.

I did have some luck if I put the disc in before starting alienrespawn, but once it came to putting in the second disc, the drive bacisally sits there whirring expecting a disc, but ejects the second disc as soon as you do.

I ended up using a usb stick and it worked fine doing it that way. Dell were pretty good and they guy took control of my machine and tried just playing a DVD, burning something to a blank disc etc etc - and all that works fine.

It led me - and him - to suspect something wrong with alienrespawn as any other things we tried with the DVD burner work fine. It is just that dosc swap over period.

I'll see how I go for now seeing as I now have my recovery usb done. I did a google and couldn't find any similar problems. Thanks,

I have had problems with alienware respawn in m17xr4. I like to make recovery disks before I do anything to the laptop.

Once I got my r4, I tried making recovery disks, but respawn would not let me write to a DVD, only bluray or USB, well laptop didn't came with bluray writer so had to use external one, and even then it rejected 8 or so disks before accepting one. Once it started writing, it was all good.

I think it's just respawn being glitchy, rather than anything else.

I had the same problem. Found a solution by accident. I shut down everything, then started AlienRespawn again. It remembered I had done the first disk and let me continue with the second DVD. There's a little checkbox that was checked already that let me continue or uncheck it to start a new recovery set.

That's good to know :) While I don't mind having my backup on a USB stick, I'd like to have a disc copy as well. Nice to have as much backup as I can seeing as Dell don't supply any recovery/windows/drivers discs with outlet machines.

We can send them for troubleshooting purposes. Also you might want to check the Firmware on the optical drive and update it if needed.

Can you burn CD's or DVD's normally?

You can also try updating the Respawn to the latest version, we recently released an update to fix certain issues with it.
