Yes, the speakers are by Klipsch. The audio driver/interface is IDT.

So, how does it sound?? R2 vs. R3? I know, I know!!! Another R2 vs. R3 debate. No. Not here. It's just the R2 sounds good. The XPS M1710 sounded good. Quick opinion-that's all.

From the R3 FAQ thread -

-Do you notice any audio popping while playing music, on Youtube, or in games?

    -Dr. J: "No"

-Knocturne: "The audio has actually run very smoothly so far."

-usshellfire: "no. considering the fact that this are laptop speakers, i have to say that they are very good."

-Do the speakers sound good? Do they have decent bass?

-Dr. J: "very deep base relative to XPS"

-Knocturne: "Don't know about the bass but you can tell the speakers were tested, they are working well."

-usshellfire: "for laptop speakers, they are awesome! very crisp and clear audio while i was watching Avatar. bass was deep, but since they are laptop speakers, they dont give you much "kick""

Yeah there's definitely Klipsch audio in the R3 and compared to the other M17x models they sound amazing. Now the 2 sets of audio out there that will still beat it IMO are the JBL's on the XPS line and the Envy Beats line. They do sound very good but lack a bit of bass like others have said.

Are you talking about both the Envy 14 and 17?
I know and have heard the XPS 14 & 15 and can say they're one of if not THE BEST speakers I've heard on a laptop (XPS 14 without subwoofer, same speakers & XPS with the added 12w subwoofer)

From what I've read about the Envy 14 beats the audio isnt that great and the whole "Beats" is just a gimmicy with just a bass boost in their built in software, cant say anything about the sound from the 17" Beats version since I have had the chance to give'em a listen.

When I read this post earlier actually got me excited since I know how top-notch Kilpsch audio is, I just wish that was even a tiny subwoofer if any at all in the R3 :(
