    Hi all!

I'm currently using a i5 3570K, 16GB, GTX 780 & 2xSSD desktop at home as well as a Alienware M14X R2 (i7 3610QM, 8GB, GT650m, 2xSSD at the office for my night shifts. My usage is mainly recording guitars & producing music in OS X Mavericks (Hackintosh) and gaming in Windows 7 (Titanfall, FIFA 14, Broforce, Deus Ex HR & LEGO Marvel). On both I tend to use an external monitor, mouse & keyboard.

As I do both the music part and the gaming on both machines, I've been considering the option of selling both, and unifying it all into one portable rig to stop going frome one system to another. I was originally planning a "portable" Alienware X51 (due to the smaller chassis) but then I thought of an Alienware 17 with a i7 and a 780m in it, as it has room for 2 SSDs (one OS X, other W7, and space still for a regular storage drive).

What do you guys think? Would I really miss the gaming performance of my desktop when moving onto a higher end AW 17? I know I'd be able to play higher res games when at the office too, so it's sort of a compromise. I'd love to still be able to play Star Wars Battlefront and The Division when they're released next year!

    Ideas? Thoughts? Alternatives?

    Thanks for looking!

P.S. I've only looked at Alienware because I do like their extended warranties. If you guys know of another good alternative with similar warranties, let me know!

Sounds like a good idea, personally I would also go for a single machine to do everything you want. I havent seen anyone run OS X on the AW 17, but it was possible on the older R4. Its a compromise going to the 780m but its a good card, the 880m is theoretically even better.

Other 'clevo' and brands offer extended warranties through the reseller, but usually have to send the machine back rather than in home support.

It's not a bad idea to go mobile, and the Alienware 17 is a great choice, but you should wait until Maxwell comes out. It's only a couple months away, and the 880MX is expected to perform like a desktop GTX 780 or 780Ti. If you want more raw power, go for the Alienware 18.

That's a good suggestion, you could wait a bit more. We don't have any details on any new releases but surely since Maxwell is so close, it could happen anyday now.
