I'm doing a LCD upgrade for my friends laptop. What are the differences between these two models HDKPV & K6PJ1. I have searched google with no success. Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure how you didn't find anything....a few sites list it as a replacement screen for an R3. They also both match part numbers from the http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...icial-alienware-17-owner-s-lounge-thread.html So either of them should work with the 17. It should be a 17' 1080p 60hz screen. Chances are the different part numbers are just different manufacturers. Might be worth looking into which part number is manufactured by who and which screen is better.

    Specifically

    LCD
0RHX6 17.3 HDF WLED AG with LVDS cable (FNH0H,GYWN1,NRFX3)
0Y24F 17.3 FHD WLED AG with LVDS cable (FNH0H, HDKPV, K6PJ1)
    3FVH7 17.3 FHD WLED TLF 3D with eDP cable ( GN36T,N392W)

Alienware codes part numbers to the bios so if you use a part that was never intended for it you take the chance the machine won't recognize it. I don't know if this holds true for the screens but it wouldn't surprise me so always make sure the part numbers are listed as working for your machine which in this case those are according to the post I linked.

I want to find the following in the specs.
    Contrast ratio
    Timing
    Manufacturer

wanted to find out the difference between the two before I purchase one or the other on eBay.

I don't know if I have ever seen the contrast ratio or timing listed for any laptop screen....

Manufacturer you would have to ask people with those part numbers to load up HWInfo and look it up. I have one at home that was my original screen , I will look at it when I get home tonight and see if I can find something on it but I am not re-installing it to find the manufacturer :p
