My Alienware 17 r1 is current limit throttling and I cannot figure out what the problem is. All my settings come from mr foxes overclocking guide. I have reset my bios twice using the ram pull technique to reset all settings and I am running stock clocks and core voltages. If anyone knows what the problem could be, your input would be greatly appreciated.

have you tried setting the current limit higher? to 200A, perhaps also setting core voltage to "default" can help you

    try both

To fix current limit throttling, you need to raise your current limit for your processor, or raise your voltage. Set "Processor Current Limit" to 256A and try the scenario again. If you do not current throttle, you are capable of increasing your current limit freely. 256A is sort of a magic number for benches like XTU/Linpack where you experience current throttle. Use Xtu/Throttlestop for processor settings.
Then test with Wprime 1024M (select 8 threads) stress test and keep a close eye on the temp and possible throttling. Test also with Cinebench 11.5. Both tests are similar to high load like in reality. Never use Xtu and Throttlestop to startup simultaneously. Choose one of them.

My processor runs fine with stock clocks without throttle on wprime and xtu cpu stress test. I first noticed it when I was converting a video that my clocks were dropping due to current limit throttle. When I try xtu memory test it throttles after about 3 minutes in the 5 minute test and in the xtu benchmark test it throttle instantly after it starts. That's why I've never overclocked because even on 4.0 ghz it jumps up and down between 3.0 to 3.5 and 4.0 ghz I can't figure out why. Trying to figure out whether I'm doing something wrong or if I need a new motherboard. But thanks I'll test out those settings and report back.

Just changed my processor current limit to 256 amps and the throttling is gone. Thanks papusan. Now that that is fixed I will try overclocking. Papusan can you send me a link or a screenshot of your overclocking settings so I can have a basis to go on?
