So im after upgrading the OS from windows 8 to windows 8 pro but I wish to do a clean install and im after info on the drivers I require and there installation order.

Go here for the drivers. You really only need the wireless or LAN one depending on your internet setup. You can just download and install all the others after the OS upgrade and such. It doesn't matter what order you do them in just be aware that most drivers require a restart.

Edit: Also make sure you select the correct OS for your system configuration. So Windows 8 64-bit I would assume.

What did they put on it? - both my M17's came almost completely clean, not even the annoying MS Office trial or mcafee!

They usually load full images so they can't remove the undesired software in the factory. Besides, it's software that DELL recommends for several reasons.
You can always do a clean installation and get all the drivers and software you need from DELL.com anyway :)

I'm assuming you're installing 8 not 8.1 directly? If so, here are all the drivers I'd install:

    Chipset

    Intel Management Engine

    Realtek Card Reader

    Audio Driver

Intel Dynamic Platform & Thermal Framework Driver (This one may fail, if so ignore it.)

    Bluetooth

    Killer-N1202 Wireless

    LAN Driver

    Dell Airplane Mode Switch

    Touchpad Driver

    Intel RST

    Free Fall Sensor

    Intel HD Graphics

    nVidia Graphics

    Alienware OSD

    Alienware Command Center

You can install them in the order I listed them, that is actually how I installed them.

If you're installing 8.1 directly (recommended if possible) go here:

    Product Support | Dell US

And get the drivers I listed above from that link, except:

    Realtek Card Driver
    Dell Airplane Mode Switch Driver

^These two aren't in the 8.1 section so get them from the link for 8 drivers.

    Hope that helps.

my laptop came with windows 8, but I have a spare key for windows 8.1 pro so I shall put that on.
my next problem is my secondary hdd port does not have the interposer connector for it ! so I need to find/buy one of them as I have already ordered my extra hardrive to go into it.
guess it is my own fault for ordering mid-range spec so I could max out the warranty on it.

    That's weird. My 17 came with one. Then again I ordered i7-4900MQ, 32GB Ram, 750GB HDD + 80GB mSATA, 780m, 3D display, but still.
