    Finally its here :)
Need to created backup-put SSD and recover to it
Right did the AW respawn. Put SSD in, activated SSD it in Manager of Win8 but whenever i try to start from USB and recover...it will do this by default on to the HDD not SSD :/

450GB? What, lol? You didn't do something right... Did you use AlienRespawn?

You can leave it in RAID.

All you need to do is: (1) take the system out of the box, (2) start it up, (3) setup Windows, (4) log in, (5) pop a USB 3.0 drive into a USB slot, (6) open AlienRespawn, (7) create a system backup, (8) shutdown the system, remove the HDD and install the SSD, (9) start up the laptop and boot from the USB - AlienRespawn will automatically begin the restoration process. Done.

    yup.
Did exactly that and whenever tried to respawn back it somehow remembers that the HDD was 500GB and wanted same, probably to rebuilt partitions and all-maybe should not specify that during respawn....got the stick anyway if I will put 500 back as main and want to restore to factory default
Anyway got fresh install eventually, removed all partitions from 500 and got all singing and dancing now :) (after few combinations with installing the 880m drivers ...)

The 780M supports 3D. It should be fine.

Seems to be 2 different part numbers from Dell regarding the 780M. One is 2K0KW and the other is 3YMNY, anyone know the difference?

Maybe it's different for the AW 18 and AW 17? Otherwise, I can't think of why there would be two part numbers for a single part.

It's a new genuine Dell one i ordered off Ebay for when my AW 17 is delivered. It's says it's for both AW 17 and 18. I have seen some listed for both part numbers.

So here is an interesting scenario. I have the Win 8 Pro USB recovery from Dell. When I tried installing Win 8 on my new SSD, it wouldn't allow me to activate Win 8. Is there some sort of solution for this?

    Hey all!

Awaiting the arrival of my new alienware lappie. :p
After two cancelled orders (Dell error). They finally have moved it into production, and called me yesterday to alert me they were watching the order, and it was now in final production stages.

Order on the 25 April E.D.D. May 19, Now the Rep stated it was almost finished, and shipping this week.

    4th Gen Intel Core i7-4700MQ
    8GB DDR3L 1600MHz
    500G hybrid NV spring 12.7mm
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M with 4GB GDDR5
    17.3 WLED FHD 1920 x 1080 3D Bundle
    Windows 8.1 Pro

Have no use for blu ray, and will add my own ram + SSD upgrades my self. May convert back to Windows 7.

Windows 8 keys are tied to the BIOS when coming from OEM. It wont work unless you buy a boxed copy of Win8 or it originally came with Win8.

Ok I have decided to upgrade from my well used and reliable M14X R1! Yes that is R1! Defo time for an upgrade.

    I have gone for the 17 with 4700MQ, GTX 880M, 8 GB DDR3, 1TB +80G Msata

Hopefully the order date will come sooner, I remember my 14x date reducing rapdily, hopefully that will be the case.

Excellent I bet you are pleased! Just checked my order status and it has gone from 'order processing' to 'in production' today. Estimated delivery 27/05/14 which I think is way longer than it'll be.

Haha yes I think this might be my first game on the 17, looking forward to hopefully playing in Ultra with the 880m. Glad I went for a new laptop rather than a PS4, PC gamer for life!

I played The Amazing Spider-man 2 in Amazing on my 880m. It handled it pretty well, although maxed out settings aren't all that much different to high settings in my opinion. Not enough to go "wow!" anyway.

i watched totalbiscuit's video on the game and he said it ran like crap on his rig....which has SLI Titans...he even said it doesn't support SLI as it had no appreciable affect. he did go on to say the FPS is crap and it's so bland and lifeless that it may as well be a ghost town.

I suppose this is the problem when games are developed for all platforms, the optimization is cr*p. I suppose if they ever release GTA V for PC then we shouldn't get excited, it may run like GTA IV did.

Damn right you won't be disappointed. I've been running mine with an 880m whiles maxing out Dark Souls 2 and the new Outlast DLC. Dark Souls 2 - 60 FPS solid and Outlast 58 FPS solid. The graphics look nicer than consoles I can tell you that much.

The unfortunate thing about the 880m is you can't overclock it and even if you can live with that the price tag is a bit too much... Especially when you can overclock the 780M easily with an unlocked vbios.

For now that's how thing's stand. Hopefully an unlocked vbios will be released for the 880m. The 880m should potentially push a little over what the max performance the 780m can give out.

Greetings all after a week of questions of forum I have decided on the M17

    I7 4710mq
    16 gig ram
    M290x 4 gig
    500gb 5400 rpm
    Windows 8.1
2 year accident protection/ 2 year enhanced support

I think the rest stock , total price is 2500$ I want to call and put in my order to see if I can get a better deal..

Did I miss anything or should I add anything?? Any tips for ordering from dell??

I want it to last at least 3-4 years.. Want to be able to play Titan fall, watchdog , Rome total war, sky rim , in ultra settings if possible :))
