Is $2643 a decent price for this Alienware 17 laptop? This price reflects a 17% off coupon code through my employer. Thanks for your input!

Do you need such specs? The 17 is quite good for anything. This will be better especially for games but even the 1st is not bad... Its really up to whether you need 2 GPU's or 1...

Not to mention the extra 4 pounds the 18 has. However, gaming IS the sole intention.

You are funny, bro. That's a sort of contradictory statement, isn't it? You suggest it's not good enough, then ask how he got such a large discount. :D

@OP: That's a fair price for the system. Get more warranty!

Does the Dell warranty cover 100% of the replacement cost? I'm skilled enough to work on laptops myself (I've replaced keyboards, memory modules, wireless cards and drives). That's easy enough but if the $800 880M takes a dump, that warranty would be nice. I tried to get a discount on the warranty. The rep I talked to wouldn't give in any on the price.

The standard warranty does cover everything non-user related.

For instance, if you're just gaming and the GPU dies, that's covered. But if you're walking to your car and drop the laptop, something inside is damaged (it won't boot), that won't be covered UNLESS you pay for Accidental Damage Service. Standard Warranty + Accidental Damage Service = Complete Care warranty.

Ideally, you will want four years of both, but the standard warranty is great. It will ensure you replacement parts / replacement systems for the entire period of that four years, due to faulty components unrelated to accidents.

That looks like a ridiculously good price considering what I paid for the same configuration.

That Alienware 17 looks really dandy.
I'd try bargain my way down to $2500 as well. It's a very sweet deal actually. :)

The current deal I can get as of today is as follows:

    Alienware 17: $2,358.05 ($2,499.52 after tax)
    Operating System: Windows® 8.1 Pro, 64Bit, English
    Memory: 16GB DDR3L at 1600MHz (2 x 8G)
    Video Card: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 880M graphics with 8GB total GDDR5
    Hard Drive: 1TB 5400 + 80 mSATA HDD
    CD ROM/DVD ROM: Slot-Loading Dual Layer Blu-ray Reader (BD-ROM, DVDRW, CD-RW)
Wireless: Killer NIC 1202 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0
Processor: 4th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-4910MQ processor (Quad Core, 8MB Cache, Overclocked up to 4.1GHz)
    LCD: 17.3" 120Hz WLED FHD (1920 x 1080) TrueLife Display w/3D Bundle
Support for Your PC: 1 Year Alienware Basic Support

I think I might jump on this deal. It includes the following discounts...

    Alienware 17 price includes $500 instant discount. - $500.00
Members receive an additional 17% off of Select Systems and Tablets! - $492.83
Members get the Best Price* on consumer PCs from Dell.com! - $48.12

Update: Done! Got my confirmation email from Dell. Should be at my doorstep on the 24th of this month. :D Apparently the $500 instant discount was an error on Dell's part. After I placed my order the website changed to $300 instant discount. Glad I got my order placed before they figured out the error. I noticed they changed the memory configuration on me from 2x8GB to 4x4GB.

Yeah, I've been watching the website for about 3 weeks now. Before today, it was only a $200 instant discount and they didn't offer the 120Hz display either. Glad I waited until today! The only two options I upgraded were the OS (Pro for $49) and the display (120Hz for $147).

You really shouldn't have skimped on the warranty though. That 1 year basic warranty just isn't enough for anything over $2000 really.

Which warranty option do you recommend? Maybe a Dell rep will let me add a warranty option.

wait, how are people still able to haggle?
I'm trying to buy an alienware 18 from Canada and when I called in they said that consumers will now have to just buy online, and if they need help, they can just use the live chat. are the agents on the live chat able to provide discounts?

Jeez, the base price for the 17 with an 880 (not including all the other bells and whistles you got) in the UK is about $2850

    That's a steal.

I was unsuccessful at haggling with the live chat rep. I just happened to check the price online at the right time. The deal I got was only up there for a few hours. The price on the website may have been an error on Dell's part. The same configuration right now would cost me $200 more.
