7 beeps is the CPU or components on the motherboard relating to the CPU. If you’ve just had your board replaced then it’s probably the CPU.

Any haswell CPU will work in the Ranger.

Thus far Crystal well has not been successful

I’ve never seen a 7 beeps issue that turned out to be the CPU, always has been motherboard in my experience

My 17X R4 has 7 beeps and I don’t have a spare cpu to test. It like @Raidriar mentioned, it might be a mobo problem

I have had a 17 with a 7 beep issue. It was a faulty 4900. There is hope!

The 4900MQ or 4910MQ are great CPU's and can be overclocked a little. If you want a fully unlocked CPU grab a 4930MX.

I'm not saying that it isn't another faulty motherboard though so you may just want to get a cheaper 4700 to test

Not really. It could still be getting power to it causing it to heat up even if the board is faulty.

If the CPU wasn't seated properly and was clamped down in place then there is a decent chance that it's been damaged. I would remove the CPU and check the pins carefully. Up to you though

It probably needs an NVRAM reset but I'm not sure how to do that on the 18. If you can find the CMOS battery you can try removing it for a few minutes

Oh yeah. Sorry, got confused with something else. You need to remove the motherboard to pull the CMOS battery in the 17, stupid design. You can access it through the bottom panel but you have to cut some of the plastic away.

8 beeps is an LCD error. Check that the connector is seated properly. Do you have the 3D display? If you do then it's also possible that you have an issue with the GPU as it runs the display

Was it on Legacy and then you switched to UEFI? You can’t usually do this without formatting your drive and reinstalling windows. I haven’t tried on the 17 though.

The 17 was released with the standard 60Hz Matte display and also the 3D 120Hz Glossy display. The 60Hz display uses Optimus to switch between the Intel and Nvidia graphics. The 3D display MUST use the dedicated Nvidia card so if there is an issue with the GPU then there will be no display and you will get an 8 beep code. It will not revert to the Intel graphics in the event of a dedicated card failure.

it could be that some part of motherboard is not detecting cpu due to some failures for me it was cpu which was not properly seated so once i fixed it. it works flawlessy.
