Can someone confirm this is the correct power adapter for the new Alienware 17 R2 that was recently released? I ordered the system yesterday but i didn't see an option to order an addition adapter.

That looks like the right one, yep.

i'd be surprised if it took the 240W PSU without issue!

Same, Dell notoriously locks down their chargers. I remember people running the M17x R2 would use the charger from the M18x and have to wire up the EEPROM chip between both just to get it to work. Needed the higher wattage for the SLI config with more powerful GPU's.

there was some leniency with the 2013 AW17 in that it would accept the 330W PSU without issue. in fact while the 2013 models have their grievances it's better than the 2015 models with regards to....
1) ease of repair and upgrading.
2) more power it can use.
3) ability to overclock.
so in a way i am happy that the 2015 models didn't get released last yearMogRules likes this. -
That is indeed the correct adapter...not sure how they pulled that one off...I guess the removal of the optical along with half the ram and only one HDD bay can cut down on power requirements?

Was looking at the configuration page and it says it ships with a: 8-cell Lithium Ion 92 wHr
That equals what exactly? Looking at say the MSI GT72 it says it uses a 87 wHr Lithium-Ion battery and the Asus G751 has an 88 wHr so shouldn't the Alienwares one have no problem?Last edited: Jan 19, 2015 -
It does not matter whether the battery is 87 WHR or nearly 100 WHR. Only the joy you have with a high wattage on the battery, is using the laptop with e-mail or googling. A 180 W power supply fails to deliver enough watts if you overclock hefty hardware on a gaming laptop ..
