Hi all, I have an Alienware 17 purchased new in Sept 2013.
The battery has been pretty much shot for a while, wouldn't hold a charge, but was still working fine just with power adapter.
My original power adapter failed, the wires in it disconnected. Bought a replacement, and seemed to work OK at first, but then the laptop just won't power on anymore, even though the power adapter light still lights up (green light on the brick).
I took it into a local repair shop, thinking maybe the DC jack inside had somehow gone, but they tested it, said it was fine. Said they took it all apart, and they could see that when plugged in, there was power getting to the battery charging section. So they could not figure out why it would not power up. They cleaned the power button leads/connects as well, nothing.

Any ideas what to do? It is not under warranty anymore, don't want to know what Dell Canada would charge to fix it....help!!

You might want to continue troubleshooting by swapping CPU, RAM which also can make the laptop to not turn on.

Try pulling the GPU and trying to turn the system on again. Usually if the GPU goes the adaptor will pop as soon as you plug it in but it is worth a try.

Strip the system right down, pull out the HDD and the ram sticks and try them one at a time. If it starts keep adding components until the system fails to start.

For which system ? Alienware 17? The only repair I know of is to replace the GPU with another one.
